I know its been asked before but cant find it. What is a size 4 in UK?

Well thank god for that!! I bought a pair of size 12 trousers, now I�m usually a 10 but getting a bit of a podge so picked up a 12 as didn�t have time to try them on, well when I got home and tried them on I couldn�t do them up, not even close, was about 4 inches from zipping them up. The card label had said 12 but when I looked inside the material label said a load of foreign stuff then 4 under it.

I have been shopping in america for years and an american size 4 is an 8 over here, 100% certain!
