Cant figure out external dvd rewriter

I have a movie I want to burn from idvd I have bought an LG external super multi dvd/cd writer. And have connected it up but the installation cd does not seem to work it says on the front of the disk to go into 'auto run' to install all the software but that does not work it opens Graphic converter and says the file is unknown it does say on the box that it is compatible with OS but I dont know whether it matters if I have OS X.

When I put a blank dvd in the drive it reconises it and says what do I want to do with it and I select to go to idvd but it will not allow me to burn my movie to it.

As the mac is talking to the rewriter drive is the software needed or not? The CD has powerdvd, powerproducer gold, nero express, in cd, acrobat reader, drive manual. Can I not burn because I cannot install the software. Or is it just that I am using the idvd programe wrong.
