I can't stand office gossips. And lo and behold, I am working with a bunch of them! I'm fairly new here so I tend to sit out of most of the discussions (I'm not usually invited into them anyway!) but all I hear is girlie chat about other people in the company.

Now, I do work in HR, so a lot of the chat is acceptable as it's their job. But yesterday I listened to a blatant bitchin' about a fellow team mate and the amount of make-up she wears; a lady whom I happen to have met and think is very friendly and very attractive.

It makes me sooooooo angry!

Does anybody else have to put up with this childish behaviour at work?

Being the new girl I'm not going to say anything, but it will definitely give me some insight into what people are like here. I find I'm making up my mind about certain individuals already.

Morning Champers.A few years back I was fairly new on an office and everybody was really lovely to me,apart from one girl who for some reason took an instant dislike to me.Whether is was because I was new and got a bit of attention I do not know.Anyway one day I came in late and they obviously thought I wasn't coming in at all, because as I approached the office I could hear my name being mentioned, and as I stood outside the door I could hear this one who didn't like me slagging me off beyond belief - from my shoes(too high), boobs(too big) etc etc - and all my so-called new workmates agreeing with her every word!

When i walked in you could have heard a pin drop.Needless to say I left the following week - I just couldn't work with such two-faced people.

Its shocking behaviour! And with the way this lot are here I dont doubt for a second that Im being talked about too. I couldnt give a toss though. People have always cast their ignorant opinions about me and theyre normally wrong. I find that people will make up their own minds regardless of others, once they get to know me.

There are always ring-leaders too. A woman has returned from maternity leave this week and the gossip has increased tenfold. Shes plain rude and out of line.
It's an unseen rule Ham. Group of women = bitchin'. Happens everywhere.

my last job (lasted 8 weeks before I walked) was with 4 older (50/60ish) women, "great I thought, no bitchin', possibly waffling bout recipes and knitting all day, what a refreshing change........lol) How bloody wrong I was, they were just as bad- detested em by the time I left.

I'd much rather work with men anyday.
Just goes to show they haven't got enough work to do if they've got time to gossip!

I'm going to ride it out though. Once I get to know people here I'll choose who I befriend and who I keep as work acquaintances. There is a lady who works near me who is a secretary in another department. She's lovely. I'll stick to chatting to her for the time being!

I have been here for 7-8 weeks now and I don't even feel as though I'm making friends. It's all so cliquey! (sp?)
Men can be just as bad. Mr S. although retired now was a company accountant in his professional life.He often used to say it was unbelievable how petty, childish and old womanish some of the men in his office were.
Scratch them with your nails ...I hope they are now long enough :)
Do you work in a large open plan office by any chance?
