right bit of a serious Q for a friday but, my mum has been having these chest pains, now the way she explains them is like a pulling across her chest. now shes been to the doctors and he hasnt a clue what it is he just keeps telling her its muscular. now my mum says she just nos thats not what it is! and she cant even bend down without her chest pulling! its causing her great distress and all the doctors are doing is telling her not to lift anything heavy! (she doesnt need lift anything heavy, i went round there this morning and she was picking the iron up from the floor and that caused her a lot of pain)
so my Q is has anyone suffered with similar causes, or can anyone shine a light on what it may be !

I don't want to frighten you in any way Tia but my lovely mum had chest pains for about 6 months, the doctor didn't know but thought it was indigestion, she knew it wasn't as she kept talking about it. She died from thinning of the arteries several weeks later.

I would go with her back to her doctor, even take a man, sometimes that shivvies them up a bit and say you would like her to have an ECG to check things out, just as a precaution. It won't hurt and she will be comforted more and you knowing that you have pushed for more. I wish I had. It may of course be absolutely nothing to worry about but please check. Does mum smoke?

Hi Sam.I would tell you mum to get herself up to casualty if it is causing her that much pain.Get her to say that her doctor is not helping and she is worried. Please let us know what happens.xx
I agree with Pink hun, tell her to go to the hospital asap. They can do a lot more tests there than the doctor can. Love to your mum hunni xxx
Dont always trust the docs - they often get it wrong!

As the above have said - go to the hospital with ur mum and stress the problem to them.

Hope its nothing too serious luvvy.

another thing? do you think it could be caused by stress??

Sam - tell her that if she doesn't go to the hospital then you are going to go round and taqke her up there yourself!!

My grandad had chest pains for weeks, and put it down to indigestion as he was a little overweight. My nan went shopping one morning, came home and he was sitting on the sofa dead .The post mortem discovered that he had a heart condition which could have been controlled with medication, but as he wouldnt go to the doctor it was too late.
First of all, don't panic. You will hear lots of horror stories from other people where things have been serious. My husband is a nurse and from the symptoms you have described, he says it is not characteristic of a heart attack or angina. The fact that it's painful when she bends or stretches does indeed suggest a muscular problem. Obviously smoking isn't good for you but that's another story! If this is a muscular strain, it will hurt even picking an iron up. Is she having any trouble breathing?
If the pain goes away when she's at rest, the GP is probably right.
Just keep an eye on it, good luck!
Question Author
no it doesnt hurt her when shes breathing, but if she coughs sneezes etc.. it does!?
Hubby just said that in that case, it certainly sounds muscular. Also, if the GP had had any suspicion of anything cardiac related, at the very least he or she would have taken bloods.

Hope she feels better soon x
Sorry Sam - we're not trying to worry you, just want her to be safe rather than sorry.
Mind you, from what you are now saying it does seem to sound more muscular.Does she remember lifting anything very heavy recently at all??
Question Author
no shes had it for a while now, and its very uncomfortable for her thats all i no, she was close to tears this morning. she has a very active job ....... so maybe the stress could be causing it?!!?
What is her job Sam?
Question Author
she works for comunity housing ! and she has to go round to tennants all the time i.e pregnant teenagers, ol men with drinking problems, she helps them pay there bills etc
Question Author
thanks pinkfizz iv printed it of and il show my mum tonight ;o) xxx
Has she had any coughs or colds recently?
There are so many things it could be.Its also possible it can be muscular or even infection of the membrane around the lung.
What exactly did the GP say? What did he advise she do?
I had frighteningly severe chest pains a few years ago, but accompanied by other symptoms, e.g. wobbly legs, abdominal discomfort, muzzy headaches.

It went on for months, turned out to be a virus. The symptoms are very long-term and exacerbated by stress.

Has she had a recent viral infection ?
