Chest pains that feel like someone standing on my chest, pains go through to the back of my ribs and when the pain subsides I'm left 'feeling' my heart for the rest of the day. Advised to make a emergancy appointment with my Dr, do you think this is neccessary?

Any crushing chest pain should be investigated.
Get in to see the GP asap.

Dial 111 and discuss it fully with the experts.
"Dial 111 and discuss it fully with the experts" They are not experts.
Could you get to A+E?
I would do more than that, I'd be off to a walk-in centre or A&E.

It seems that the OP has had this problem before. Stress can cause a constriction of muscles around the chest which might leave the 'feeling' my heart for the rest of the day scenario. Personally, I would have called 999 if I had any kind of crushing pain (never mind the GP or anyone else).
Stress can do it (had a friend who was regularly rushed to hospital for the same thing) but my very best advice is to diall 999. Frankly, if you live anywhere near I'll put my coat on and drive you to a hospital A&E (I'm in E.Yorks.).

Short of breath, sweating and convincing my body to relax and not to get too agitated
The mere fact that Answerbank trumped the NHS suggests that things may have eased a tad in the interim.
RING 999 NOW!!!!!!!!
And tell them all the symptoms you are having.
The commonly thought of symptoms of " Chest pains that feel like someone standing on my chest, pains go through to the back of my ribs and when the pain subsides I'm left 'feeling' my heart for the rest of the day." are not the most common presentation of a heart attack. Flamboyant, theatrical and dramatic symptoms are good for TV, Films and the populace.

The heart attack may be symptomless or more commonly a indigestion like pressure or pain in the chest that will not go away on rest.

However the advice above is correct, to seek medical advice although in this particular case, a heart origin for the pain is unlikely.
Sounds like angina. See you doctor asap.

Thank you all - managed to get an emergency appointment this morning. The Dr seems to think its Angina. I have a spray to take sub-lingually and a heart scan sometime in the next 7 days. I definitely try to relax and calm down when the pain starts. I have spent my life eating everything that's bad for me - even eating the fat my partner cuts off her bacon, my diet is appalling though I'm not overweight (12st at age 55), so I'm guessing it's all my own fault!
