whats the best excuse when calling in sick?

phone in and say "I am sick" When they ask you how sick you are, say to them you're "in bed with your grandmother. Is that sick enough ?"

When you phone, pinch your throat slightly and speak in a soft voice - tell them you have really bad throat and can hardly talk.

I hate calling in sick cos they never believe you whether its true or false. Why cant we just call and leave a message on an answering machine?

I totally agree with Saxy-jag... the best time to do this is setting the clock to wake you the second you need to call in, you always sound like sh@t in the morning, strain your voice and just tell them you don't feel well... you could also say your eyes are sticky to add more interest to it as its unusual... whan I do that, they always remark tha I sound terrible, it sounds like conjunctivitus and I need to take a COUPLE of days off to get it sorted, as long as I call again the next day to remind them!

Taking two days off sick ALWAYS looks better than one, and try to not make it a Monday or a Friday. Stomach Bug is normally the best, as you can't make it to the doctors, but clears up quickly. food poisoing?

Stomach bug is a good one but you expect people to look quite drawn after 2 days of evacuation. I agree with taking 2 days and that Mon & Fri look too obvious. The phoning-when-just-woken-up tactic is good - combine it with lying face-up on the bed, with your head hanging upside-down off the edge - this makes you sound slightly off, and is esp good if you're faking a cold.

Once you start telling lies for days off, the lies only get biggger and bigger the next time.

Say you were sick in the night and you feel really awful this morning. Don't go into too much detail or it will look like a lie.

I dont think little lies like calling in sick (especially if she's never done it before) are exactly things that we'll catch up with you in the future...

Just do what some of the people have mentioned before, you're obviously usually very punctual so im sure one day wont hurt.

I reckon food poisoning is the best option....

lie down when you talk on the phone to your boss-makes your voice all throaty and hoarse...( I think) haven't got round to asking my boss if they beleived me or not.more importantly, how do you get rid of the 'sickie guilt' that seems to spoil the whole day you took off???

Why can't you just be honest, if you've used up all your leave and say that you need a day off, without pay, for an urgent personal reason.
