I'm divorced & live my son.His 21st birthday is coming up in October. His mother & sister have offered to buy him a tattoo to celebrate the occasion. I've told him if he gets a tattoo I will throw him out of the house. I think i'm saving him from mutilating his body,& saving him from embarassment in later years. What do you lot think?

What I also didn't say is that I have a Friend as well who has 18 Tattoos, none of which he regrets and he Works for an Ambulance Service.
Not all People become ashamed of their Tattoos and not everyone with a Tattoo won't progress up the Career Ladder.
Give him a chance, he might surprise you!!
I also would very much like to know what your son has chosen for his career? obviously not a probation officer, of which I thought these people did good and tried to help those that had broken the law. Not the attitude you give us, which is of hate and disdain for them. How long did you stay in that job?
Nice link, yesmadam :o)

I kind of give up on this as the mind is set. I feel sorry for the son, I really do.

Oh, and I know loads of people with tattoos in high powered jobs. Broaden your mind ~ your world is far too small.
Do you know what?? I was trying to be nice to this Man, trying to help him not to lose his Son, but I don't want to anymore as I have just read his Answer to another Post.
Question was "What is the Slimming World Password" and his Answer was "Too Many Pies??"
Well, I might be a bit dim, afterall I have a Tattoo, but you obviously haven't got a Nice Bone in your Body. The Lady was trying to better herself by losing Weight and that Comment was uneccessary.
Get off your High Horse, let him get a Tattoo and chuck him out. It'll probably be the best thing you've ever done for him.

Yesmadam. You didn't have to work in that factory ! They were the most bigotted set of people I have ever met. They were all racist, sexist & homophobic.Their daily reading was usually the Sun or the Daily Star. The office girls were afraid to come on the shop floor as they got the usual lewd comments. A black lorry driver came to make a delivery,he got monkey chants and was called a black b......d. That was the reason I left. They had the practical joke coming to them. As for the toomanypies, have you lot lost your sense of humour?
Carrust, there is obviously no convincing you, but that's ok because luckily people like you are dying off because most of them are getting old. It's just a tattoo. These days everyone has one. It is no big deal. I have done a couple of things in my life that I don't necesalrily regret, but would gladily trade for a tattoo that I did not like, and I am a scientist who is working on a PhD. I have many friends who are well educated and have very good jobs who have tattoos. So your point of view is simply out of date! Deal with it.

Newtron.Q.How can you tell that a scientist is an extrovert?
Ans.He stares at your shoes when he's talking to you!
carrust - as has been said he is a grown up and its up to him.
the best thing you can do is agree, but insist on coming to the tattoo place with him and okaying the design.

if you chuck him out, all he will remember in the years to come is that you threw him out over a simple tattoo and because you couldn't control his life - this will become resentment.
these sorts of ultimatums may work in the short term but the effects last a lot longer - he will never forget that you deemed a tattoo more important than him, so much so that you would make him homeless for it ( obviously this goes deeper but in essence this is the case and it is what he will remember in the future)

if he agrees not to get one because of you - he may well just get one in a place you will likely never see it anyway.

also by the time he is old enough to start regretting it, tattoo removal with be easy and cheap and done almost as often as tattoos. it is already becoming commonplace and in the next 10 years or so they will have advanced greatly by then. so don't worry about him being marked for life.
I don't like tattoos either, but he is an adult, you need to let him make his own choices. They are very popular nowadays. I do not believe chucking him out of his home will help. Surely breaking a relationship between a father and son over a tattoo is petty?
