ive jus been told by the quack that ive got asthma,
and im a bit p1553d off cause i am a retained firefighter undoubtably this will affect my carrer in the fireservice
is asthma a lifelong condition or something that comes an goes??

aha, dont know of any around there. bf does most of his training in Lowestoft rather than Ipswich. Has done a big drill (IRU) there last year
grrr just typed this and then baby pressed keyboard

bf has just sounded out union rep whilst on a chip pan fire call.
you have 2 options
1) not to tell anyone and continue as normal. BUT if you have an attack whilst on call / in BA then you and crew will be in big trouble.
2) to make it known. you cant be sacked. They can send you for a medical which would decide if you can continue (if unlikely to have an asthma attack) or to be put in a non BA roll, driver etc.

Number 1 is not advisable at all

jus to update thanx for yr help guys ive spoken to the occupational health dept and they will organise some test for me to decide what exatly is wrong with my chest apart from being may be a little too hairy
