Can any of these 'new' toothpastes on the market (Blanx, Sensodyne etc) that claim to rebuild tooth enamel really work?

In a word NO!

I hope they do; however I heard a dentist say on TV that enamel cannot be rebuilt once gone (I hope he was wrong).
If you have thin enamel, then it's just something you have to learn to live with (I do, and I have).

After my dentist's advice, I use an electric toothbrush that cuts out if I press too hard, and an ordinary toothpaste (Macleans). Your enamel will rebuild itself to some extent, I believe, but basically the secret's in the brushing - or not. I've followed this advice for several years and haven't had to have any major treatment for the past three.
Enamel is a non-vital i.e. dead substance therefore it cannot be 'rebuilt' as such. However if early demineralisation has occured then sometimes depending on severity they can be remineralised by fluoride ions in toothpaste for example.
