If I am crying and get into a bath or have a shower, I can't cry anymore. No tears come out and I only make the sound of crying and think i sound silly. Why is this?

What are you on about? do you mean you sound like nicki out of Big brother
is it not that your brain will only let you do one thing at once when you are crying? Except when you slice an onion thru the core, then your eyes run and technically you are not really crying. i don't actually understand the question, if you are crying, why would you be wanting to take a bath or shower, why would it be something you would want to do? If u are crying just cry.

What I mean is, if ever I am upset and crying and I happen to take a bath or get in the shower whilst still crying, as soon as the water hits me I can't cry anymore as in, no tears will come out.
It's not often I take a shower or bath when crying but when my marriage temporarily broke down a few years ago I was crying on and off all the time and noticed that when I got in a bath or had a shower, the tears wouldn't come.
I just wondered why that was? I saw a kid ask the question as well on one of those "be a teacher" ads so I thought there must be an answer somewhere.
i can'y say i,ve ever heard or noticed this before, can only assume that by taking the shower/bath it becomes a distraction to the mind/body
i must try and cry in the bath and find out if i can do or not,.
What happens when you get out? Do you start crying again ?
Maybe there are tears there, you just dont notice because of the shower/bath water.
it is odd but I can honestly say that if I am upset and crying, i am too upset to think about taking a bath or shower, crying is emotional and i don't have the capacity to make decisions when i am emotional, I just let the emotions envelop me, I can try when I hoover though, i have done that, and when I am washing up, definately cried whilst driving, lots of times.

dot.hawkes normally I'm the same as you but at this particular time in my life, I couldn't stop everytime I was crying or else I'd never had left the house! even when I got to work, I'd just sit there and cry.
anyway, i've just googled the question and it brought up loads of advice for crying babies which said if you give them a bath, the warm water soothes them so maybe that's it. it's not the water replacing the tears though because water isn't on my face whilst sitting in the bath.
so i was right then? ''DISTRACTION TO THE MIND''
I have cried in both so don't think it's a general issue
