Is it possible to tell if you are starting to suffer depression, or just getting the blues? Just recently I have been starting to feel differently. Everything in my life is fine, but I have been starting to feel like I don't want to do anything. My job is fine but I just can't get motivated. I don't want to go to work and I don't want to work when I am there. It's not because the work is too hard or too boring as it is quite varied and a great place to work.

I have also been starting to feel like I wouldn't mind if I died now. Definitely not like I want to kill myself...but if i was to die now I would be happy that I had lived a good life and I would be happy to not have to deal with anything.

Perhaps I am just feeling like this as I bought my first house in Jan and I have just got a new job after 5 years at the same place. I don't feel like I can't cope, but maybe it's just subconsciously overwhelming?

Sometimes i just want to curl away and hide. Nobody would ever guess because I am always so happy, it's just that sometimes inside I feel differently.

Maybe everybody gets bad patches like this, but this is the first I've ever had?

Hi CiderMonkey,

Not sure if you sound depressed, it does sound like you've had a lot of change in your life which can just flat out tire you out. Also, moving house is up there as being as stressful as a berevment. Perhaps you need a holiday and some time to relax on your own, you could be suffering from burn out... I know I get that way sometimes and it does usually go. Are you burning the candle at both ends too?

Everyone wants to curl away and hide at times, whenever I do feel like that it's exactly what I do but I set myself a time limit... e.g. right don't want to see or talk to anyone this weekend so am going to curl up with cd's and a book but I'll make plans to meet up with someone on monday or something so that I don't get stuck in a rut with it cause that could cause depression.

Ultamately, if you are really unsure then you need to visit your GP for a proper diagnosis.

Good luck hun, don't stress xx

thanks, Im sure that's all it is. I just think I needed to hear that everyone gets like that sometimes!
CiderMonkey, think that is just life. you have had a lot of changes lately and sometimes that takes time to adjust to. As China Doll says - may be some chill out time is needed. I have suffered from depression and it was really weird, like you say, I was feeling things that I didn't understand and could find no reasoning for. However on the positive side I think if you know what you are feeling isn't right or natural for you then you are one step ahead.

Take it easy and chill out and if things do not improve go and see you doctor. Don't worry, you are not going mad because apparently if you were you wouldn't be concerned
:-o)
Maybe something is changing in you, maybe you need to delve a bit deeper inside yourself to find out what it might be. Maybe it's a good time to reevaluate your life and decide if you are truly fulfilled? It doesn't sound to me like you are depressed, but I certainly think things are stirring! Bright blessings - Amara
