After boobesque's thread on blood tests, does anyone else have any irrational fears.

I have a real nasty fear of drowning....i often have nightmares about it and it wakes me up with a start. Just thinking about it makes me go cold

i can't stand lifts. if one broke down with me in it i think i would die!!!!! even being pinned down freaks me out coz i can't move if i want to!! sad aren't i!!
i hate going on planes and not too keen on boats either.
as well as the lift fear that posy-jo said.
i am terrified of snakes; alive, dead, real, false.

human snakes are the worst.:-)
its drowning for me too hammerman, i also have nightmares about it...

lifts are a problem too....god i'm a wuss!!!
Loads of people are like this, it's not freaky. I am the same with lifts. Even though I work on the 4th floor I will *not* use the lift. Especially as a friend in the same organisation got STUCK in a lift at 2.30am and was there for an hour......

Can you imagine it ? He was not happy. I think I would have been dead.
I will happily get into a lift, hold a spider, stroke a snake and get into a swimming pool without fear of drowning.

But the moment I board an aircraft I immediately become a quivvering mass of jelly and my stomach doesn't unknot until I climb off at the other end.
Luckily I don't have any fears as the ones mentioned...Injections, flying, lifts and boats.

But I do have a fear of being buried alive, that is to say
when I die I wish to be cremated, so there is no possibility of me waking up 6 ft under!! Of course that is totally irrational (as the question asked), because I would have suffocated anyway in such a confinement! It didn't help me, when I saw a TV film (based on true story) of a girl who was kidnapped and "buried" in a chamber, with a limited supply of food/water [air supply from tubes connected in the 'coffin' to the surface]. They did eventually find her still alive!

Spiders, wasps, bats and moths (small and large).
I have written down my funeral requirements - it has to be a cremation, so I don't get eaten by worms. All my friends know this and if they don't do as I request they will be seriously haunted. This all stems from my (totally irrational) fear of ***** see - I have trouble even typing that word twice in one paragraph !!! I freeze up if I see one in the garden (hence I'm a dry weather gardener). I cannot look at pictures of them in books or watch tv programmes about them. Can we change the subject now please ?
i am afraid of the dark, am also terrified of any operations that involve being put to sleep because i'm petrified i wont wake up again, i think most people are nervous of this but my fear is overwhelming and i get myself into such a state like when i had an endoscopy, its not really an op but i was so freaked out i had to have a nurse by my side holding my hand while i had it and i ran away the fist attempt at it.
Have slight phobia of husband running out of beer in the next hour as i will be mug going to the shop!
I am terrified of waves, I don't mind the little ones you used to jump over when you were a kid, but the big... huge... noisey, un-broken ones that look like they'd crush you when they broke... I hate them, ever since I was little because I was swept under by one whilst body boarding, my board got wedged in the sand and my wrist was strapped to it, I was so small I couldn't reach the surface and nearly drowned... :-(
I have a phobia of stitches. I never knew how bad it was until I had over 300 stitches in my hands after an operation(while under general anaesthetic) when i woke it made me feel really ill. I spent all week not being able to eat and felt sick all the time. There were times when I had to hold my hands at arms length cos i felt faint looking at them. I also had desperate urges to scratch them all out. When I came to have the stitches out, the nurse had only gotten to the third one when I passed out.. I think I would die if I every had to have them again.
Forgot another fear.........the drill at the dentist.

It doesn't matter if I'm not in the chair, so to speak...just sitting outside in the waiting room, I hear the drill going and thats me done for...

Sweat, panic attacks, shakes, you name it - I've got it - just hearing the damn thing!!
I have a phobia of the creepy crawlies, especially spiders (they give me the heebie jeebies )

Also have a slight fear of being locked inside small spaces, like bathroom stalls etc. I always double check the locks on the doors.
Im terrified of dying - I often go to bed and lay there thinking that I might go to sleep and not wake up,and then my heart starts pounding so loud I swear the whole road can hear it ,and I have to go downstairs and put all the lights on and tv etc just to convince myself how alive I am!!
Flying & sharks. So my ultimate fear is to crash land in shark infested waters.
I have a completely crazy fear of the plugs or drains in a swimming pool! I thought I was the only one until I discovered a website for people just like me!!
Rainhopper - that is SO NOT CRAZY - I love swimming but there is no way I will go anywhere near the vents/drains/etc in a swimming pool. I am convinced that if they turn them on whilst I am nearby, I will get sucked up to them and drown.
Scarecrows
Anything with more than 4 legs so just about every bug going but I think it's fairly normal to be scared of the little monsters. But I am also terrified of ventriloquist dolls, think they are the most spooky thing going and on the same note I'm not that keen on toy puppets or clowns.
