it would really help to know what you are taking it for
whoops posted that before id finished. Are you using it for depression? If so, you need to see your gp to discuss anti depressants
try 5HTP - you can get it from health food shops like halland and barrett and some chemists
vitamin b complex can help with mild depression i have been taking them for two weeks and find they are helping x

I'm not using anything at the moment that's why i am asking. Also I don't want to take anti depressants, again that's why i am asking for alternatives....

Thanks though everyone for your help, i'll have a look into those products that were suggested.

5-HTP is the most common recommended one. I take 300mg a day (more than they tell you on the packet but that's what I've been advised to take) and it is available from Holland and Barratt for 14.99 for 60

Check out SERATONE 5-HTP on www.healthydirect.co.uk

A lot of their products are cheaper than in the shops & are excellent. I`ve been buying with them for ages & have had no complaints at all about the service.

i don't really understand why taking st. johns wort seems more acceptable to people than being on prescribed anti depressants, as most drugs are made out of plant derivatives in their first form. St johns wort has side effects, like any other anti depressants, yet it is seen a socially acceptable, whereas prescribed medication isn't. Prescribed drugs have to go through very rigourous testing, retesting and most are probably continually in some sort of trial, and have known side effects whereas when people self medicate with over the counter stuff cant provide any data about efficacy or side effects!
