Samsung E630 privacy PIN

Ma pal has a Samsung 630 which her brother got hold of and put a privacy PIN on the photos which means she can't access them now. Is there anyway of finding out what the number is (without resorting to vilonce) or can they be downloaded to a PC? One pal said she should be able to without the PIN but a 'phone shop says she'll need the PIN to downlod them. If it's sent off to get fixed, all the photos will be lost. Any ideas?
