I have to say, yes, I have done it.
I guess it would depend what it was about - if it was something really wrong then I would find it hard to lie,but if it was something silly then yes I probably would.
i have a bit of a sliding scale of morality - some crimes or moral wrongs i wouldn't hesitate to help a friend or family member cover up if i could, but if the person had done certain things that were repulsive to me i would again not hesitate in shop them and clearly wouldn't feel any friendship for them any longer
Would totally depend on what had been done and, just as importantly, why it had been done. If it were a minor incident and I believed that no real harm had been caused then I probably would.

If it were more serious, e.g. a legal matter, then I would not lie (unfortunately I have been in that situation before). If I were in a position where someone close to me had done something serious and they wanted me to lie to cover for them, then I'm not sure how close I would still feel to that person anyway...

right ok here goes my friend and her boyfriend were arguing and he pushed her over on the floor and now she has a cut lip and a bruised eye, she has asked me not to say anything and she is telling everybody she got in the middle of a fight in a pub and the two people accidently hit her whilst she was spiliting it up now im covering for her as i dont want to cause and arguments am i doing the right thing ?

Who are you lying to-her family? Friends? If it was a one-off and he is never like that usually, and he didnt mean for her to fall over then thats one thing, but if its a regular thing with her getting hurt then I would say what reallly happpened.

im just lying to everyone who asks about it even my bf doesnt no and i feel really guilty but she is my mate

Why cant she just tell everybody that they had a heated row,she fell over and hurt herself? What do you make of the boyfriend - do you think he is a nice guy?
Question Author

yeah he is a really nice guy he has got to sides to huim though but i dont think hes evr hit her with his fist or anything serious like that but, she says after he pushed her over he blamed her and said that she fell over herslef if that makes sense

very awkard to say if you werent there during the row.She could have been really winding him up and he pushed her away as she was getting in his face if you know what I mean.I think you should at least tell your boyfriend the truth, and see what he thinks?
Question Author
yeah im going to i hate lying to him
Sam,I think you friend has put you in a terrible position - if she didnt want anybody to know she should have lied to you as well! By the way,how did the jogging go the other night?
Question Author
i didnt go jogging i was to tierd im going tonight though.thanks for asking mate
I think this is a little different to having to lie for somebody. If they had asked me to lie I would simply have said that while I was happy not to tell people the truth I'd rather they didn't involve me in it.

I would lie (and have lied) for friends.

I also let them know that I definitely do not like the idea!
