I started by eating meals on smaller plates, eg a teaplate rather than a dinnerplate and we also got a dog which needs a lot of walking

At risk of sounding really glib...

Eat less. Exercise.

I know, I know! The thing is, there are no magic cures.

Oh, you can lose a tonne of weight with Atkins. And then magically put it all back on the second you stop.

Eat less. Exercise. It's the only way.

which is basically what I answered
I lost two stone just before Christmas, Ric.cor (I've just gotten back into it!!), by eating 1200 calories a day. You're not really supposed to, but I find I stick to it easier if I have half of those in the evening when I'm more likely to snack. Good luck x

yes but I would be starving on 1,200 what can be done to stop being hungry - I already drink over 2 litres of water a day

Most of my 'diet' is made up of carb-y things (bread, etc.) as I'd starve too. I take Phase 2 tablets, which do help! I eat the carb-y foods because I don't like fruit and veg much, but if you do, fill up on those.

I always seem to find that if I have a day off my diet and eat what I want, I just get hungrier and hungrier. I get used to it when I'm dieting. Do as much as you can to take your mind off it.

Join Slimming World! I have almost lost the same amount since Sept 05. I have never eaten as much!!

Phase 2 tablets - what are they
i thought it wa just me that hated fuit and veg and I really loathe onions
My daughter was advised to go on the Lipotrim diet which is managed through our local pharmacy,Lby her GP as she was heading for possible diebetes. It costs her 30 per week but that is her entire nourishment for a week. She has lost one and a quarter stones in a fortnight. It is strictly controlled by a pharmacist with a weekly weigh in before being able to purchase her food sachets.Google Lipotrim and read all about it.You would have to find your nearest participating pharmacy as not all our local ones are involved.Your GP should be able to advise. My second daughter hasjust joined and lost half a stone in one week,I am thinking about it after a weekend function in May as you cannot break the diet once started until completion of desired weight.
I've tried allsorts, the only thing that works for me is Weight Watchers, I really begrudge giving them 5 a week, but so far I've lost just over a stone in 2 months. I tend to cheat at weekends, but I try and make up for it during the rest of the week.

They're starch blockers, ric.cor (you can get them in any health food shop). x

Phase2

Try to avoid the quick fix - X stone in Y weeks etc.

If you loose weight quickly you're much more prone to put it back on quickly and you'll become one of the "yo-yo" dieters.

You need to get it into your head that you need to change your lifestyle.

Look at what you eat, how much excercise you get and yep sorry how much you drink - Alcohol is a real brute for putting weight on you.

If you're not getting much exercise now try to find something reasonably energetic and stick to it. There's no point joining a Gym and going twice because you hate it. - Personally I took up Karate but that's not for everybody but anything like that where you do it with others rather than on your own is a good motivator.

I have managed to lose 10 Kilos In a couple of months by following a low fat diet given to me by my GP. I have to go and be weighed every two weeks which gives me the incentive.
Mine is low fat and and I have to watch cholesterol.
I have porridge every morning ,eat lots of fish, fruit, pasta, veg etc..only wholemeal bread and look at the fat content in what I eat.Absolutely no sweet stuff ,butter, cream pies and puds.Alcohol is also full of calories so the whisky is on the back burner for now !
I am never hungry now that I have got into the routine of it.
Also have large dog which I walk twice, sometimes three times a day for exercise.
Mind over matter really ..I have had to do it for my own good and feel much better for doing it !

Try and cut down on your intake....I found that something as simple as not taking sugar in my tea or cofffee helped me to loose weight.......

Park the car a little further away than normal so you have to walk an extra bit, try and jog up and down stairs when you come to them. Get out and about on a bicycle.

There's lots of small things that can be done but most of all don't try and become concious of it, soon the weight will come off with no worries.

There's a chemical in apple peel that stops you being hungey...you can always eat an apple when you're feeling like a snack attack. Also freshly peeles carrots are good too for snack attacks.
dont eat any crap then you might loose some weight!!!!!

I have lost just over a stone recently by eating smaller portions and eating very slowly, drinking lots of water, cutting out most fat and eating loads of veg and salad. I also eat porridge most days with low fat soya. Oh, and I eat quite a lot of oily fish now (which I love). I have also started walking more. It suits me because the very word 'diet' makes me feel hungry and I then think of food all day. I have also hated any slimming club I have been to - all that points stuff and calorie counting, along with clapping when people have lost weight, just isn't me.

It's not been a fast loss (about 5 weeks) so far, but it's steady and manageable and I could quite easily continue like this indefinitely. What's even better is that I am beginning to feel much healthier now and my energy levels are slowly going up.

I also recommend wholeheartedly reading Paul McKenna's book 'I can make you thin'. It makes such good sense and certainly has helped me.

Good luck, and don't forget walk as much as you can.

i am doing "lighterlife", you lose 3 stone in 14 weeks and you do not put it back on...it encorporates a 1hr counselling session too and its fantastic, i have never looked back. i have done everything but this is the only thing that works.

the thing about really controlled diets where someone tells you what to eat is that you don't actually learn anything about food e.g. how to eat a nice tasty but healthy diet...

I recommend a wholefood diet - this involves eating no processed foods only whole / natural foods e.g. no bread, no pasta, no white rice, no tins etc BUT loads of veg and fruit to go with meat, fish dishes e.g. cook everything you eat from scratch - this shows you and allows you to control the sugar and fat that goes into your diet and you will feel healthier and lose weight.

good luck
