Some folk on here take life far too seriously. It takes all types of questions to keep this kind of site so interesting. Why are some people here so serious all the time?

Why not?

It takes all sorts to make the world tick and this forum going- why can't some folks be serious? I agree however that they shouldn't deliberately go into a post to sneer at the question or replies, but I'm all for the serious questions which receive good common sense replies.

I am not saying people should'nt be serious BOO But some on here are too serious, and yes they look down their noses at other peoples replies. I sometimes sit here and think for a long time about a reply I want to give, then get put off it, as no doubt, someone correct me, or make me look like I have given a stupid answer.

Maybe I am the only one who feels like this.

Awwww, you shouldn't feel that you daren't put a reply here for fear of being laughed at, I'm forever posting dim questions and even dimmer replies!

Actually for a superb example of my stupidity and not thinking questions through 1st- see my question is science!!

Let's not get this thing blown up out of proportion, there has apparently been a recommendation for this site in a national newspaper and the result is quite good, lots of greenies, but they seem to be taking lightly the opportunity to post a question in categories that are borderline appropriate. This is one of the reasons Chatterbank was introduced. For a few months now the site has been calm and interesting, the idiots were dispersed, it just seems like there is an element this weekend that think it is a place to goad and tease other users

Well I do BOO Just been putting my point in, in a post a few mins ago. You would think I was the bloody invisible woman. Obviously not "intelligent" enough to be acknowledged! I have asked some light hearted questions in the past though, and had a good and friendly response. :)

hi minxie,

i hope i didnt offend you tonight...i just found it really weird that someone thinks that posting a message about his dad's a*se and his smelly p**is is amusing? i find it juvenile...it doesnt mean i am a serious person!! everyone is entitled to their opinion. anyway i'm sorry if i came accross as being rude but i never meant that...i was just kind of dumbfounded by it....sorry xx

I havent seen the paper recommendation Dot. I joined Answerbank last year. Dont think I have asked a stupid question yet, but maybe a lighthearted one after a couple of glasses of vino!

I really think the problem is it is hard to get what people mean sometime, maybe I get defensive too easily but I definately prefer face to face contact. It is easy to take people the wrong way, especially if you do not know them. Also people may be tired, had a bad day and get p'd off with what they assume to be immaturity or someone taking the p.

If I am one of the so called serious ones then I apologise as thats not really what I am about. You seemed to take personal offence at my use of the word 'idiots' to describe some individuals on here (correct me if I am wrong) but I stand by my opinion that this section of AB has changed very much over the last while and some people are being deliberately stupid to get a reaction. You seem to find that funny, I dont.

I have a genuine concern that new users will get a bad impression and not want to ask for advice.

No offence taken Bella I guess if I had been new to this site, I would of thought it a bit flippant too. But have been here a few months, so got used to all the postings. I am sad, as I thought the bottom question was funny, as I guessed it was a wind up. Enjoy your time on answerbank. Its great, and very addictive! x
i agree alijangra....its really difficult to express exactly how you are feeling on here...most of the time it is taken in the wrong context...i also agree with the point about new users...they will get put off.
Question Author
No alijangra I dont find people acting stupid to get a reaction funny. The one posted by trouble just did strike me funny. I always scroll down the questions and try to find some that I can give advice to. The idiot bit I reacted to, was because sometimes I think some Answer Bank people here think a lot of us are idiots. I know the idiot questions posted. And it amazes me why they want to post them. I dont find them funny. I enjoy this site. Its been very helpful to me. And I hope in my small way I have given good advice to others.
I really not tryin to be argumentative but whats with the 'us and them' thing? Who are 'the answerbank people' and who is 'us'? I really mean this as a genuine question as I am obviously missing something. Are we not all part of it?
Minxie ,I have to admit that when I ask a question there will be an element of sorting the wheat from the chaff to arrive at an appropriate answer. I do like the jovial answers that wend their way to my inbox. I do find text type irritating but does it change my life - not really. The positive far outweighs the negative on AB I think that any answer given from the heart or another users life experience is really appreciated - don't be put off by pedantic people. Hurrah for the middle ground!

There are a certain group on Answerbank Alijangra who I would say like to put themselves a little above others.
Question Author

Sense I often sit here for a good while typing out my anwer to a particular question. Then delete it and read what others have posted. And think, dam, thats what I was going to say! Think I should get some assertiveness courses!

Daren't give advice seems to be an odd few that know 'better' than anyone else???
careful Minxie the clique run the show round here... it does get a bit tedious...
Question Author

I may have to change my username now!

I must be oblivious to it! I notice the folk that say hi to each other so I know who is friends with who.I have been on the site six months and I rarely get aknowledged so its not something I come to expect. Hmmmm maybe everyone is trying to tell me something... :(
hi alijangra and how are you this fine morning???
