I work for a fairly large company where the manager of of the department I work for has recently been promoted to a director. The problem is the first task he complted was making 2 members of high ranking staff redundant and installed other people doing the same job with different job titles. Now he is constantly threatening other people with the same fate and openly accusing of sub standard work performance. He rants and raves at employees and embarasses them infront of work colleagues, he has single handedly reduced the moral of the office the non existant. Because we work away from the rest of the company nobody sees this. Is there anything that can be done about his threats of redundancy.

The manager had been with us 5 months and guess what??? He got fired on Thursday last week. This guy may be 'A' director but I assume from that that there are others? Approach them, or get someone above you to and make sure they are aware of what is going on. We didn't think talking to our DP would help but it did. Eventually they realised the guy was a liability. Your team's work and morale will suffer and this will not go unnoticed when it affects your work- which it is bound to. Then it will reflect badly on him and something will have to give. If you have an HR manager have a quiet chat, or if you feel that srongly make a complaint. You need to be strong with these bullies. I am so much happier on my work already just not having the threat of this guy hanging over me every day. Good luck.
you have the right to raise a greivance through the companys proceedures, everyone has the right to dignity and respect at work.
as to see the policy for bullying harassment and intimidation,as well as the health and safety regulations which under the duty of care act can be used in this case of using a position of authority to subject employees to work in an enviromemt which is causing stress.as for a risk assessment of your working enviroment to be done.this will frighten the life out of this person and highlight the company failings.
