Since we moved house we have been looking for a new dentist.I found one which appeared suitable and I made an appointment for my husband and myself in February. Before we moved we had been with our old dentist for about five years, and, apart from the odd filling,we had had very little trouble. Also,I made sure we were being accepted as NHS patients.

Well,I had my check-up first and the dentist told me I needed to see the hygienist which would cost 35.When my husband had his check-up he was told he should also see the hygienist and also he needed some crowns, which, apart from the 35 for the hygienist, would come to 193.

To be honest,my husband was not very keen on the dentist, and said he would like to look elsewhere, and so I cancelled our appontments for the hygienist and for his crown treatment and we have found another dentist closer to our home and we have an appointment to see him next week. However, this afternoon the first dentists office rang and said that my husband had outstanding treatment and would he care to make a 15minute appointment to discuss the treatment.I told them he was away on business and would not be free until after Easter.

Is there any way they can force hime to have the treatment or to pay for the treatment which he hasn't had?

If you cancelled the appointment, then I can't see how you would be expected to pay for treatment you haven't had.

That is what I thought, but then I wondered that because you sign a form with them then that commits you to stay with them - hope I am wrong !!!
Not at all! You are free to choose. Dont even go to the 15 minute appointment, sounds like they will charge you for that even if nothing being done.
