Hi all,

I dislocated my shoulder on Sat. playing footie and just wondered if anyone knows the average (obviously i know each case is different) time a player is out with this kind of injury. In a best case senario whens the earliest i could get back, My teams in a final in 3 weeks, is there any chance at all i could make it.

Thanks in advance.

You're very unlikely to make it. The shoulder joint consists of a very shallow ball and socket, which is why it is relatively easy to dislocate compared to the deep-seated hip joint (basically because the shoulder is a non-weight-bearing joint). It is quite reliant on the ligaments and tendons to 'hold it together', and after a dislocation, these have been quite disrupted, and take a while to sort themselves out. Get a bit of advice from a local physio. sorry to be a bit negative, but if you get it sorted properly now, it's less likely to happen again.

Hi Mate,

I have to agree with Campbellking im afraid, I use to dislocate my shoulder playing tennis and football, I use to be out for at least 5-6 weeks, due to tendon etc - dont rush back I did that once and then my shoulder kept dislocating, you will also notice I said use to dislocate it, I dont play sport anymore as I had to have it operated on and now its to fragile so dont mess with it, thats my advice, sorry to be negative and I know how painful it is, get it moving as quick as possible and strengthen it gently, physio is great help

Cheers,

steve

Poor you m4roon77!

My boyfriend disclocated his shoulder about 18months ago, and had an operation on the 31st January to repair the cartilage in that area. He is now having physiotherapy and his doctor has said his shoulder won't be fully functional and back to normal for another three months. He's not allowed to indulge in contact sports, and is a lottle meeked he can't play footie on a Sunday until April/May!

I hope it's not too painful for you.
