Ever now and then I start choking and cant breath, doesn't happen at particular times so cant connect to anything but its as if my throat blocks up and I just cant breath so I have to keep coughing to try and breath. Only happens every couple of months but would like to know if this happens to anyone else and do they have a diagnosis?

4getmenot, This often occurs if a person is stressed out. Its called " Dyspragia". I know lots of people who have this me included. I can go for days but if Im over tired, stressed or hungry, while Im eating you may depend I'll gag on my food. There are other causes though, Google them.

Thank you FINA I have just tried googling dyspragia but it didnt come up with anyone, is this spelt right or do you have a link to a website for me. Could be stress and tiredness.
Sorry, its "Dysphagia" 4getmernot..I was thinking of something else...Duh.

Doesnt sound like that. Dysphagia is more like problems swallowing. This is more sudden choking.
Do you have acid reflux or "GERD"? I have and I have to take Zoton. Acid reflux can also cause swallowing and choking problems 4getmenot but with me its when Im overtired or stressed. Have you had a thyroid test?

Its more like an allergic reaction. It just suddenly does it and I dont know why, throat becomes dry and just blocks up.
Phew, I wish I could help you more,to put your mind at rest why not see your gp? I did thats how I know what causes my swallowing and choking sensations 4getmenot. I still think yours could be stress related but best to get it checked out:-) Let me know?

I did go see GP but they said they wanted to put a cmaera down my throat, when they tried I got upset and told them to stop :-)
I could'nt bear the thought of the camera either so my doc suggested a barium x ray. It involves drinking a thick liquid, you are then put on a table that stands upright while the x rays are taken. They ask you to move from side to side but its a piece of cake just dont burp as they'll need to repeat the whole thing again. Ask about it 4getmenot.
sounds just like the symptoms of my partner - stress related I'm afraid, Are you under a lot of stress?
I agree with you tigerthecat. Mine turned out to be more stress related than anything else.
Only just read this thread. I'm suffering from exactly those symptoms right now and I'm off work with stress! The two must surely be connected?
