One girl in the office is swearing blind that women have proportionally bigger thigh muscles than men. I have no idea whether this was true, but thought it was interesting enough to see if I could find out. All I can find is this

Females generally have larger 'Q angles', which refers to the angles where the femur bone and tibia bone meets at the knee. The 'Q angle' is determined by the width of the pelvis. Having a larger 'Q angle' means that there is a greater susceptibility of the knee to have an inward torque when an individual performs jumping, landing, turning, and planting movements.

But, this does not mean that they have proportionally larger muscles does it? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Im a trained dancer and have always had larger thighs, I also inquired once regarding this issue. But it is not true that women have larger muscle mass, but we DO have more fat deposits in the buttox and thigh area. Men have more fat deposits in the stomach. The fat deposits are often the main reason for larger thighs, but ANYONE can gain muscle and bulkyness depending on their genetics, what they eat, and how they excersise. Also, if you grip with your thighs when you excersise, or if you don't stretch- this also causes the muscles to get bulky vs. lengthening.

Hope this helped a little. ;)
