Other than surgery there is no known way to "spot reduce". Your body will use fat from where it likes and that's generally not where you want it to use it from. All you can do is lose fat and that will remove some from your target area eventually.

Thanks Loosehead, but surely there must be some forms of excerise which are more effective than others at reducing fat.

Exercise removes fat but only indirectly, ie you burn more calories than you eat and depending on the metabolic state the body will attempt to make up those calories from other sources within the body. Hopefully it takes it from fat but only if the metabolic rate is high enough, if you are in starvation mode then it will use muscle and try to hang on to the fat.

It is a common misconception that doing a particular exercise will some how reduce fat in that area. For example many people believe that doing abdominal exercises will reduce fat from the midrift, it won't. It will however strengthen the muscle and may give a more toned effect but the fat needs removal and the only way to do that is to induce the body to use it as energy and that can be done by creating a small but regular calorie deficiency buy sensible eating and exercise.

Good Luck

I started cycling about 4 years ago & have found this has toned up thighs & bottom.Try Google for 'spot 'exercises for arms & bottom.
Also going to a gym will help.Walking is also good for lower body.

im a gym rat and experienced bodybuilder and what loosehead says about not being able to spot reduce is exactly right. what you can do is drop overall weight and body fat by buring more calories than you consume, i.e eat less, exercise more, but no crash dieting for that will waste muscle rather than fat.

you can specifically exercise the parts you want to trim in the gym with weights, this will firm the muscle and when you've dropped the fat at the same time you will look much leaner and toned.

cycling is a great exercise for the legs.

Mowbray are you female, because women naturally put on excess weight in the places you mentioned therefore if you reduce calorie intake and exercise you will burn the fat stored in those areas. When I diet and exercise, I loose fat in those places. I think walking is a very effective exercise to loose weight, it is a load bearing exercise so also good for building strong bones.
