Hi, can anyone help me?, i've got thrush but my problem is i'm allergic to canesten, gyno daktarin & nystatin. I started with it on tuesday morning after being on anti-biotics for 2 weeks & so rang my doctor who gave me a fluconazole tablet, it did'nt help so i went back to see him on wed & he prescribed gyno-daktarin, i used it as soon as i could but then the burning pain hit, i ended up rolling around the floor in agony, my mum suggested i get into a cold bath which helped then rang the emergency doctor, he saw me & would'nt treat me with me being allergic to other thrush treatments in the past & told me to go to tesco's & buy a big pot of yogurt !!!!....well i did & it helped...a little, so thur i went back to my doctor who has now put me on a course of the fluconazole capsules for 7 days, the trouble is i'm still so damn sore........anyone out there with any suggestions, i'm so desperate i'll try just about anything, thanks vickimac

I'm advised that 'live' yoghurt kills the thrush bacteria - apply from the fridge with a tampon for an additional soothing sensation.

Yep Andy is right - it really helps. Go for the most organic live yogurt you can find and apply it every time you go to the loo.

Also, if you can bear it, try going commando and wearing a long loose skirt - the air circulation really helps (although obviously not while you're coated in yoghurt!).

I am sure drinking cranberry juice helps heal thrush. I am sorry but I cannot add anything else regarding how to heal pain except cold yoghurt.

Cranberry is more for cystitis than thrush as it changes the pH of urine in the bladder.

Still, it's healthy enough and the placebo effect might kick in!

Live yoghurt straight into your tuppence (Sorry, young mother here). Apparently vinegar in the bath helps as well.
www.patient.co.uk - type in thrush and click on recurring thrush info. It also has a section on the natural cures etc.
Instead of using a tampon, at night, try buying one of those giant syringe type things, no needle obviously, (meant for measuring liquid medicine) and use that to 'administer' the live yogurt.
this may sound really daft, but I guess it is the burning more than anything else? In the chemists, there is somthing that is called Kook and Soothe - meant for migraines, but give it a try - will help to cool down, also try tepid salt water and if you have a microwave, put in a cloth for a minute or two so it is warm and alternate cool and warm. Also, a good drink if you can stand it is Robinsons Lemon Barley water. Flushes out the acidity in the urinary tract that causes all this mess. Hope this all helps and you feel better real soon,
in my herbal encyclopedia it says you should take two garlic capsules every night this will prevent it reoccuring..you can buy the odourless ones so you wont reek of garlic..it also says about the yogurt ..and aloe vera gel is also good externally..you could also try aloe vera tablets and echinacea tablets..to boost your system...the diet you should have is gluten free low fat high fibre ..do not eat ..butter cheese ..milk..bread..beer..dried fruits..mushrooms..pickles..or preservatives..sugar..syrup..sweeteners..chocolate..pastry..and puddings should also be avoided..take vitamin a and zinc daily..in other words live on fruit ..vegetables and organic fish and meat..
