as above

are they literally just a tiny amount of salt, shaped into a tablet or in a capsule. or are they something more? made differently?

and are they better than just consuming normal granulated salt?

thanks

do you mean the type used for water softeners? if so google shows lots of different types, with varying prices.
Question Author
oh sorry no, i mean prescribed medicinal ones
If the tablets that you're referring to are labelled 'sodium chloride',they're identical to table salt (except for the absence of the anti-caking agent that's commonly added to table salt).
Question Author
emmie - what are those for? what is the connection?
i thought they were medicinal salt tablets
taken for menopause?
sorry perhaps am barking up the wrong tree.
Question Author
ah, no theyre not salt tablets, theyre for menopause, not sure of the connection

im asking what salt tablets contain
not sure what you want to know but the one i linked to

HealthAid Menovital Tablets are designed to be taken by menopausal women, and contain a range of vitamins such as Vitamin B6, Minerals, and is rich in Soy Isoflavones, Sage and other herbs. Menovital Tablets should be taken as a supplement to provide extra nutritional support required before, during and after the menopause.
they 're not prescription only
AND - you dont need them
in fact you dont need added salt from a salt cellar

and as a tablet you just clunk a pile of powder and it holds together rather than add a holder-together ( excipient ) which give a pill (which is rolled )

I was asked in an exam once (difference between a pill and a tablet) - and the examiner tacked on - "you dont know the difference!" in triumph ( see above)
and I said in wonder: "I dont know the difference?" - ( it was an exam see where the examiner asks the questions and the candidate answers and not the other way round) 1973

and instead of saying "OK what then?" he passed seamlessly onto McShpraddle's disease or something which he was determined I didnt know.

didnt get that one - - - but good training for AB fifty years later

and gives you an early insight into the importance of exams

Hooray - normal AB thread

thank god I always answer a different question
Question Author
emmie - they are not salt tablets! it doesnt even say salt on the box!
i also didnt mention menopause, im not asking about menopause, i am not menopausal.

im asking literally what i asked - what ingredients are in salt tablets - are they just salt or do they have other things.

im not sure how you got linking me to a site to buy menopause vitamins from that question.
then can't help, let PP see what he can come up with.
Question Author
I'd rather someone who can actually answer my question answers.

im not interested in other meds, i just want to know the ingredients in salt tablets - thats it.
You are not giving us much to go on apart from telling us they are not for the dishwasher nor for menopausal women.

There are many different types of salt tablets - could you be more specific? Do you mean, for example, the salt tablets that some runners and athletes take?
Salt tablets are just salt (NaCl) and salt on the table isn't.
I cannot see any reason for taking salt tablets except for a very rare condition called Addison's Disease.
Dehydration, sweating etc, one needs water, not salt which if taken will make your condition worse.
However in extreme dehdration, you might ,just might start to lose salt and require it either by mouth or intravenous infusion.
Of course in extreme cases of dehdration e,g ulcerative colitis, dysentery and other conditions of the GI tract you will lose salt and need replacement by intravenous infusion.
PP is correct, the healthy person doesn't need added salt.
Added salt is BAD for you.

I need extra salt for POTS

i dont like the taste, so wondering if you buy salt tablets or if i can just make my own with empty capsules and table salt
Joko......just take whichever salt preparation is palatable to you and follow the advice of your physician.

I didn't think that POTS was a permanent state of being and that steroid (mineralocorticoid) and your beta blocker should suffice. I wouldn't be happy with taking added salt.
Just my opinion.
