vascular disease
Blocckage of the arteries of the leg commonly seen in Type 2 Diabetes.
bednobs has the better answer.
and SMOKING.
Sqad not necessary smoking. My next door neighbour has type 2 and has been in hospital 3 times this year for operations on her foot. The plastic surgeon is coming to see her today to see if he can save her foot, but if not, she will probably have an amputation and she has never smoked in her life. This all started because of an infection in her heel.
Over 9000 lower limb amputations in the UK every year due to diabetes, the biggest cause of this sort of amputation. 176 every week.
Barsel...look at me when I am talking to you......SMOKING is a major cause of vascular disease and amputations.
A smoking diabetic is not good :(
My Jen had her op this afternoon, she's not to really awake at the moment, but minus three toes
Sorry to hear that, Tony. Is she diabetic or a smoker?
Type 2 and a smoker, not a good mix. But it was a stent that got blocked.
I hope she makes a swift and pain free recovery, Tony. I know a chap that had three toes removed when he stood on a land mine (he was a soldier at the time). It took him a little while to walk but now nobody would know. I hope your wife has a similar experience
barry it will take some time but to honest if it had continined Jen would have lost her foot.
Just don't know at the moment if surgeon decided too remove her small toe aswell.
Yes, indeed, Tony, it can progress very quickly .
Better to take it off if there is any doubt that it could hamper her in the long run.
But I'm an optimist and provided big toe stays that will be a plus, all from a stubbed toe.
I think the big toe is the most important for balance and stability so fingers crossed.
I'll find out in 15 minutes
Best wishes to you both
