Thank you Sanmac.
By coincidence, when I read your question I happened to have a print-out of my latest blood test sitting on my desk:)
Oooer Husb is having his 3 monthly bloods tomo to see if he’s still in remission from leukaemia. (AML)
He looks n feels well so ought to be fine. but it’s always a little bit scary waiting for the result
Question Author
sanmac, I was asking for a friend as she doesn't know what monocytes are so she asked me if I could find out on AB.
All I know is that hers were .94 which is higher than the normal range, but I don't know if it's counted as considerably higher or even what it means.
Does it have to do with inflammation?
It's something I've never been tested for.
Cited as 0.2 to 1.0 in this NHS Shetland document:

Eve, hope hubby's tests are ok.
Question Author
Chris, is this something you are tested for, is it cancer related?
I've given up trying to work out what they're testing me for, Barsel ;-)
(Perhaps they're looking for a brain?)

[But no, that's not on the usual long list of things on my blood test paperwork]
Mine is "high also at 0.9. I would say that result is really insignificant. As sqad would say: "No big deal.":)
Question Author
Thanks everyone.
I will tell me friend that that result doesn't appear to be worrying.

'My friend'
A little story?
In my finals I was given a blood report which showed a high monocyte count and was asked what the patient was suffering from, aged 18 years.
Like a fool and a total idiot I said acute monocystic leukamia Sir.
To this day I cringe at my answer and will never, ever forget the aphorism that is so true in medicine " commonest things occur commonest "
I still got through which was a total travesty of justice.
they give porters finals?
Head porters please.....HEAD.
Why didnt you use laymans terms and said white blood cells?
it's "a" white blood cell, but there are others
There are different types of white blood cells : lymphocytes, monocytes, basophils, etc.
Well, I've learnt something new.
Whether I remember is a different matter.
and dont forget the other white blood cells - good ol' neutrophils and Eosinophils.

Barsel hope that your friend has had a few fears allayed by what you found out on AB.

And ty Barsel for wishing my husb bloods come back ok.
