Mrs A, in hospital, isn't allowed to have her iPad or mobile charging on the wall behind her overnight, so the nurses have to take the devices away for recharging.

And, inevitably, they've 'lost' her iPad...

They might well find it, but so annoying. Why such a daft rule about not having charging by the beds? Oxygen? Don't know, nor does anyone there...

has it be PAT tested or whatever the current term is? We cant plug them in at work either unless they have a certificate
ridiculous. I have been in hospital a lot and have always been able to plug in by the bed (since they started allowing phones/devices anyway). Is she feeling any better? And how are you?
if they are plugging them in somewhere else though bobbin, it's still not PAT tested at the new location?
Maybe the sockets were put there for emergency treatment and might need things plugging in, they wouldnt want to have to unplug ipods, ipads etc???
Theres possibly something you can use that you charge up at home and then she puts in to charge it without plugging into the mains??
your right bednobs but they may have a hut or backroom where it doesnt matter to much if a fuse blows in the mains, better than shutting off power in a ward.
But allen it sounds wrong in this day and age so its worth asking and seeing if you can use one of those booster/power storage leads. A had one once

A bit, bednobs. Not as much as we'd hoped, but certainly a bit better, which is worth hanging on to. Had some diuretic issues, and suspected kidneys, but that seems to have resolved itself, so she is making some progress. Thanks for asking (of course!)

Yes, agreed about the rules. I was in earlier this year, and had my phone plugged in behind me.

Anyway, apparently I can send in parcels (i.e. my iPad) even though it's a Covid-restricted area, which they inspect then pass on to her, so if the iPad doesn't re-emerge by this evening, that's what I'll do.

bobinwales (Theres possibly something you can use that you charge up at home and then she puts in to charge it without plugging into the mains?) not if her iPad's gone missing!
Glad to hear the treatment is working. Hopefully whoever took it will return it. Have you reported a theft?
Yes obvs! But am talking about how to charge it when they found it or your replacement in future if there not letting her plug it in overnight at her bedside
I bought this to charge my devices when I'm out and about. You could charge it at home take it to hospital with you. At the moment it is a bargain

It's probably for safety reasons. If it's charging overnight then it is unattended and there are fire risks with that.
Will your OH be compensated for the loss of her iPad Allen? I'd be very cross it was me. I wonder how many more they've lost.
Question Author
No, too early to report a theft. They're waiting for the night staff to come on (this evening) to see if they've 'put it somewhere safe'...

After that, we'll have to get into the theft possibilities. Really don't need any more aggro, though.

No you don't, nobody would in your position. Horrible. Throws suspicion on all who work there, or even visitors if these expensive objects are not locked away.
do you know why they can't just unplug them rather than removing them completely?
I mean they don't have to be charged constantly and they can be charged whilst being used so the issue should not arise.
No issues for me or mine whilst in hospital, always able to charge devices at the bedside overnight or otherwise.
Maybe there has been thefts of patients' property at that hospital.
Bobbin is right, you can get a powerpack for an ipad or phone, charge it at home and take it in

Too late, woofgang.

Her iPad is missing.

I can’t take anything in (covid).

I can however send her my iPad by courier which is what I’ll do 1st thing if no show.
