Six pounds is a lot in one week, Bobbie. And, a fair amount was probably water weight. Now, you may be losing fat, and loss will be much slower. The important thing is it's going in the right direction.

thanks Pasta, a bit disillusioned when I got weighed but at least it's not 'on' I suppose
Well done.

There is a monthly weight loss thread, rather quiet this month - maybe you'd like to join their number.

It also depends on how close you are to your natural weight. The less you need to lose, the slower weight loss will be. 1-1.5 lbs a week is good.

I don't have a huge amount to lose but I have put on a stone over the lockdown period and I would like another 8/9 lbs as well to fit back into a size 12-14
Don't go by your clothes size, it means nothing and is often used to lull you into a false sense of security.
Ummmm is correct. Take measurements...I bet you will see a difference in several weeks.
And try not to have weekend blowouts...3 steps forward, 2 steps back. You undo your good work.
Bobbs - since you are trying so hard - why don't you join Myfitnesspal - it is absolutely fabulous and very detailed as to what you eat and drink.

When I get back into form - I'll be going back, it is very truthful in fact too truthful. LOL
Your comment begs the question - why have you put on so much weight in lockdown? I've actually eaten less because I'm less active than before and my weight has stayed the same.
Question Author
normally Diddly I would of thought being less active would cause you to PUT weight on,anyhow, it's likely in May we had a hot spell and I was drinking more wine and started to have a glass with my evening meal (not now) and eating more stuff like an ice cream , my neighbour Harry was sending us fresh cream cakes every Saturday, peach melbas to die for and that's how I suppose?
> why have you put on so much weight in lockdown?

Quite a few people have. It even has a name ...

haha, ellipses, I love that, thank you
yes when the babies are born due to this - popular names either for a boy or a girl, is Covid or Corona.

Bobbs - let's hope we all lose weight in the coming weeks or months

arh I am sure I will JJ just want it off NOW, haha
Too many people seem unable to grasp the basic fact that calorie intake, if in excess of calorie expenditure, equals weight gain. It's not rocket science!
most of the 6 pounds would be water, you cannot use 6 pounds of actual matter in a week.

/// too many people seem unable to grasp the basic fact that calorie intake, if in excess of calorie expenditure, equals weight gain. It's not rocket science! ////
I knew exactly what I had done, I didn't say otherwise !!!!!
It's no longer just about calories...the old mantra has been disproved. It's more about 'what' we eat. 1500 calories of mars bars are not utilised by the body in the same way as 1500 calories of roast chicken. Plenty of research explains this.

It's normal to lose more in the 1st week of a diet. Then should be a steady 1-2lbs thereafter.
Pasta, the laws of thermodynamics don't lie, calories in v calories out is the ONLY thing that matters. The problem is that there are so many things that throw those calculations off, see here:
