you need surgical spirit and aloe vera gel. mix them so that the surgical spirit is at least 60% of the total mix by volume.
I’ve seen a mixture of white vinegar and vodka recommended , but soap and hot water is better.
Difficult....unless you have neat (ie 100% ethanol, or even isopropyl alcohol) to hand...in which case 70ml neat alcohol to 30ml aloevera gel - the nearest you'll get if you DIY.
Soap and water is ALL you need !
Witchhazel and tea tree oil is a recipe I've seen bandied about.
As usual EDDIE misses the point!!!!!
Has he, ginge? For once, I agree...
Just drink vodka.
Natural internal and external sanitiser.
Well, works for me anyway. Still above ground!
^^^do many people carry soap and water and towels about when they're out?
Why has EDDIE missed the point?
We are constantly been told to wash our hands. And for most people, soap is all that is left (if you can buy any) Hand gels appear to be a thing of the past now, good luck if you can still get hold of one.
Do they need to? Most homes, businesses ,public places etc, will have a sink somewhere.
...just to be clear...yes, handwash and water when available. Hand sanitising gel when they're not....I assumed that was what the OP was about.
It's not like they have a sink at the top/bottom of escalators or behind every door we have to touch.
I just take out with me, a pack of Tea Tree facial wipes and wipe my hands as necessary, usually when I get back to the car after shopping. When I get home, I use soap and water first thing.
Hand sanitisers would play havoc with my skin.
Maybe...I thought it was about coronavirus mostly. You need 60% alcohol minimum in a hand gel, but that is not as effective as washing your hands.
According to this excellent & highly recommended article, https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v42/n06/rupert-beale/short-cuts
the only two things which kill the virus are alcohol & soap, so I reckon the safest thing you can do is retire to have a bubble-bath with a large gin & tonic.
I agree Khandro except I'm not able to get into a bath now. Oh well - have to stick with the g and t.
The World Health Organization has a recipe for making hand sanitizer which is

Ethanol 96%: 8333ml
Hydrogen peroxide 3%: 417ml
Glycerol 98%: 145ml

That is topped up with sterilized water to make ten litres of sanitizer.

I used the recipe to make a litre so that just means using a tenth of everything.

I got the ethanol from B & Q, https://www.diy.com/departments/la-hacienda-bio-ethanol-fuel-2l/540224_BQ.prd
and the glycerol and the hydrogen peroxide from the chemist.

You can add some essential oil to mask the smell of the ethanol if you want.
