I’m going through the menopause with all the stuff that comes with it - hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety. I think I’m more than half way through the worst of it, but I’m bothered about the spare tyre that’s creeping up around my waist.
Would taking HRT give me the oestrogen I need to reverse the spare tyre and give me my waist back?

Some evidence suggests that estrogen hormone therapy increases a woman's resting metabolic rate. This might help slow weight gain. Lack of estrogen may also cause the body to use starches and blood sugar less effectively, which would increase fat storage and make it harder to lose weight.15 Feb 2019
What's your activity levels like?

My mum walks a lot. Not just for exercise, she likes exploring. Then she became borderline diabetic so gave up sugar. Although she was slim anyway any spare weight due to the menopause just slowly dropped off.
I went into early menopause at 41 years old due to a hysterectomy, I got the sweats etc but fortunately no great weight again, that came after packing fags in around 23 years ago, but still managed size 12-14 even now
So, your avatar's not you then, Bobbie?
Errr, Nooo Haha
Good!
Clothe sizes mean nothing.

Bobbisox, you look lovely.

Ummmm, I walk a little bit and do some weights every evening - nothing impressive though.

I don’t like sweet things, so, not much sugar to be given up.

Thanks for all your replies.

Thanks Clover, me , warts n all , lol
Jo...I don't have a massive sweet tooth but my mum started looking at the sugar contents of things we don't really think about.

I've been through the menopause btw.
Ummmm sod off, I showed Tilly that the orange lady ( you remember her?,( course you do) wasn’t really me, now do one with your pathetic nasty jibes !
Sorry, I can't get rid of the spare tyre etc.. I still look OK when clothed, but I know the saggy, bumpy bits are there and, sad to say, I'm not through it yet (70 last year, started at 50). I walk a couple of miles with dog every day and am generally active. When swimming regularly (have a back problem precluding stuff like jogging) I tighten up a bit. I am trying to get back on HRT (they stopped it just like that when the scare happened 50-odd years ago and I ran into a brick wall and spent months in a soaking bed, gibbering) but I don't think they believe that I still have flushes etc..

To answer your question, 'yes' I think HRT would help. (Put in a word for me while you are there, will you?)
I couldn’t take HRT due to a DVT when I had my daughter, in hope it helps Clover x

Thanks for further replies. All are helpful.
Another question: do you continue to have periods while taking HRT?
Easy one - yes, so far as I was concerned; very light.
I was only reading today, that sage is supposed to be good for hot flushes.
I'll give anything a go, Patsy. Thought I'd tried everything. I'll wait until the next lot start (coming in 6-weekly bursts) and give it a go.
Yes, give it a go, Jourdain. This woman who uses it, swears by it. I don't suffer too bad with hot flushes, but will try it myself. Good luck.
