Sill struggling with it after 2 years, don't want to dampen your hopes.!!
what does your doctor say? have you been referred to a chronic pain clinic?
Unless you were able to take the anti viral within 48 hours, it's a bit unpredictable regards time. Painkillers doesn't usually touch it but anti seizure drugs are usually prescribed, like Gabapentin, which usually helps. Go see your GP for advice. Good luck. I know it's awful pain...
Low doses of amitriptyline are often used.
The options which are available to your GP are listed here:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/post-herpetic-neuralgia/treatment/

However, as that page makes clear, treatment is really about finding out what works best for you as an individual. A medication that really helps someone else might do much to help you but, equally, a treatment that doesn't help the other person might be just what you need.

So see your GP but be prepared to go back (possibly several times) if what you're given initially doesn't do the trick.
I had shingles in the summer, and ever since I have had to take 2 Gabapentin 3 times a day for the PHN.
amitriptyline, Was what I was prescribed , I too, only when the pain was too bad as I didn’t like the sleepy faraway feeling I got from taking just one, as ginger bee says, try taking even a half of one to help stop the nerve pain, you really do have my sympathy
