or school only produces vegetarian meals for the children.
I was watching on the news this morning, but can't provide
a link, if anyone can ta. The parents I don't think were given
any option.

I'd be cheesed off they're pushing their agenda onto young minds. For that reason alone, no I'd not be happy. Indoctrination of Vegan/Vegetarian ideas are not what a nursery is paid to do. Different matter if the parents request weird diets for their kid.

As I class vegans as bordering on lunacy I would remove my child from such a nursery.
I'm a big meat eater and it wouldn't bother me. I'd feed the kids meat at home, nothing wrong with having a varied diet.

if they were nutritious meals would it make a difference.
They're not vegetarian meals - they're vegan meals - and no, I wouldn't be happy.
Wouldn’t bother me at all, in fact I think it’s quite a good idea as it ensures lots of veggies for the children which some may not get at home.
Like hc, I’d feed my children meat at home.
Question Author
no meat at all, sorry i confess that i wouldn't be happy either, especially being given no choice. remove child forthwith.
Question Author
what if it was only meal of the day??
That menu sounds lovely -big step up from Turkey Twizzles & chips!

Seriously its not going to kill them and a varied diet can only be good for children.

I would be very happy with the nursery.
Question Author
but to be given no choice, does that seem fair.
emmie -its a nursery not the Salvation Army -what makes you think it would be the children's only meal of the day???? Sorry that's moving the goal posts.
If it was the only meal of the day I’d question the parenting rather than have a go at the school.
Those accepting this would then be glad to see vegetarian children fed meat?
WE didn't get any choice at school when we were served stringy liver and onions and spam fritters!
Emmie, it's not the absence of meat I would worry about - it's the lack of dairy in a vegan diet - milk, eggs, cheese, etc. I can't imagine not giving a child a glass of milk.
Not really comparable is it Zebo :/
Being a vegetarian is a lifestyle choice. Being a meat eater is normally the default.
Given that I have read than many childcare organisations fear that they will have to close due to lack of income, they must think that there is a market for vegan childcare. I am not a parent, can't think that it would bother me unduly if the rest of the care was excellent, the only thing I would be concerned about would be whether the diet suits the child. Physically it certainly wouldn't suit me! I would be concerned if the diet came with any kind of indoctrination program though!
oh naomi the little darlings are not at boarding school! I would presume they can have a glass of milk at home for breakfast and milk when they go home at 3pm. A glass of almond milk at lunch instead of cows milk is hardly going to make them hypocalcaemia.
I would think the nursery have given a lot of thought to the nutritional value of all the meals now being offered, and it will provide the children with all their dietary needs.
