A couple of years ago. Very annoying. It's strange but I can make out if something is savoury or sweet. Also I can smell a couple of things up close like coffee for instance. I sometimes get the waft of perfume when someone passes me. Doctor says it will come back but I have my doubts. Anyone else have this problem ?

I have absolutely no sense of smell at all, lost it 24 years ago after an operation. The surgeon said it may come back but after 24 years I don't think it will.

Tonyav I sympathise
I'ts got the stage where I don't really miss it any more, I hardly think about it now. I missed it for the first few years though.
Question Author
Yes I can understand that
My uncle has no sense of smell or taste. It happened after an accident. They thought it might come back but it never did.

How bad a virus was it?
Question Author
At first I had bronchitis then after I got over that I picked up a virus shortly after.
Gosh - how horrible. A couple of years is a long time. Being able to smell some things is encouraging though.
Question Author
Yes ummm I hang on to that thought
Have you been to the doctor recently?
Being able to smell some things is encouraging though.

Yes, that is encouraging. I can smell nothing ( I haven't lost my sense of taste though ). Losing my sense of smell used to worry me a bit because I've always messed around with cars and it's always useful if you can smell petrol.
Question Author
No I told them about 3 times and all they said was it would come back. I gave up.
Question Author
I thought it you lost one you lost the other.
Thats because they know that there is no medication to make it come back, silka.
Question Author
Sorry don't quite get that
I still have my sense of taste, silka. Still can't stand Marmite.
What don't you get, silka ?

Question Author
Oh yes I get it now. They just say that as a standard
I think they are saying that your sense of smell will probably return because you do smell certain things ( coffee, perfume ). But there isn't anything that they ( doctors ) can percribe to make it come back.

I heard mention of a nose spray that helped. I'm going to get some
