I'm not Catholic, but I would think so, the Christian religion would probably class Tarot as a black art, Devils work. Interesting question though,
Dont tell um...(:)

Catholicism today is far less condemnatory of people who show a light hearted interest in Tarot or Astrology, but officially it is sinful and breaks the 1st commandment.
I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not have any gods before me.
At one time, tarot reading was punishable by death.

Catholicism doesn't seem to have stopped Cherie Blair dabbling with every alternative therapy under the sun!

Some religious people still carry the inheritance of the Catholic Church from the past centuries. The Catholic Church used to condemn anything, esoteric or not, that was not in line with their beliefs. It has to do with intolerance and power. There are still plenty of people out there like this. The Catholic Church used the call the Tarot the Devil's Picture Book in order to scare people away from it.

Sacred Scripture has many condemnations of these activities: In the Old Testament we find, "A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortune-teller shall be put to death by stoning: they have no one but themselves to blame for their death" (Leviticus 20:27), and "Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortuneteller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord..." (Deut 18:10-12).

Any practice which utilises occult powers is condemned as contrary to true religion and is generally considered a mortal sin.

So as said above, I won't tell 'em if you don't.

Thanks guys. Interesting view Drusilla because I posted this question based on somebody saying that it broke the 1st Commandment of worshipping other Gods. But of course Tarot reading is not worshipping other idols is it? Octavius has since clarified that. :o)

I shall take the view that it's okay so long as it is a lighthearted interest.

Thanks again. x
So long as you go to confessions afterwards and say 10 Hail Marys!
