My OH has taken to filling a pint mug with water out of the cold tap and warming it in the microwave as he don't like it too cold, trouble is he keeps topping it up and rewarming it all day long, I don't think this is a good idea, won't harmful bacteria grow in it? what do you think?

If he is actually drinking from the mug and then topping it up and warming it....then, yes, bacteria will flourish - but not necessarily "harmful". (The same applies when people drink bottled water from the bottle, re-cap it and leave it in a warm place eg car...the bacterial count shoots up). My main reservation with doing this....the water becomes less...

No idea, but suspect it would be less risk to warm the amount one were going to use each time. Microwaves don't sterilize like boiling does.
I dont know about the science behind remicrowaving water, but my instincts would prefer he boiled the water in the kettle and kept it warm in a trendy thermal mug or water bottle.
The risks are pretty slim.

Moan at him to use the kettle.

Buy him a vacuum jug and do it in batches.
Why doesn't he just get fresh water each time?
Fill a jug up in the morning and sit it out of the fridge, he’ll have room temp water all day.

My main reservation with doing this....the water becomes less palatable, because it loses dissolved gases (like oxygen and carbon dioxide) and tastes "lifeless" or flat.
ifhe isn't making you drink it then why are you worried?
probably alright, tepid water though sounds awful. That's one thing I love about this time of year, delicious, ice cold water straight out of the tap, couldn't imagine warming it.
I didn't know reheated water could be harmful until my health visitor told me. She said if I ever gave the baby a drink of water it has to be fresh water only boiled once.

That's for babies though.

Thanks everyone. I think I will get him a thermal jug or two. I worry because I don't want him to get ill, and its me that will be lumbered with a not very good patient.
