I've let a set of cooking pots sit unused for about a month. They all now have black spots, mould/fungus?, inside them. They seem to scrub away with Brillo pads but soon reappear. Time to buy another set?

You don't cook much then??
I can recommend Meyer saucepans. Long lasting and a joy to cook with.
...could well depend on the material....glass, aluminium, stainless steel, cast iron, enamelled cast iron etc., etc.
I would recommend the Tefal ones. The are hob to oven ones with a removable handle. I only have the frying pans and they are brilliant. I do plan to buy the pots. You can buy spare handles as well. You have to take the handle off, only if it goes it the oven.
Pots a month old should not need replaced Sandy.Where were they stored?
He said 'unused' Anne.
Who said they were a month old....they have been UNUSED for a month.
Ummm, I know they are unused, surely they should be returned to the shop ?
^^^^anne, even if they are ten years old, perhaps?
Is it worth buying another set if you dont use them for a month?

This does sound odd. Are you sure they are dry when you put them away? Do you store with the lids off? Is your cupboard damp?
I read it as he hadn't used them for a month. Not that they were a month old. I have pots that I haven't used in way more than a month.
it doesn't sound like the age of the pots is relevant, something must be getting to them to cause this, are they stored anywhere damp?
snap BM
Ummm, I assumed they were new, ( I don't know why ) :-(

They've been unused for a month but have been used for a long time before that. Sorry if I wasnt clear. I can't remember what they cost but weren't that expensive.
Probably best to dump them.
The age of the pots IS relevant because anne thinks they are only a month old.....
You might be right, Anne, Sandy will have to confirm.
try cleaning them with white vinegar and bicarb of soda - leave overnight and rinse well in hot soapy water pop in the oven on a low heat to dry and then see if it happens again
Oh and I have the same pans as Ummmm and love them
I'd dump them Sandy.
Mystery cleared :-)). Get new pots Sandy .
