Has Ab Ever Been A Lifeline To You

Must admit that AB has been more of a 'lifeline' to me on more than a few occasions than 'professionals' have ever been. 6 yrs ago I went through a bad time with the law etc and about 7 months ago I ended up in a psych hospital after a particularly bad psychotic time.
Knowing that I was dealing with 'real' people as opposed to those that had loads of book learning but no real experience has got me through some tough times.
What about you?
(and thank you all)

No.
Yes - I reached out on the hardest night of my life and people were there.

No way, if I needed advice I would approach a recognised Professional.
I personally have never been through a rough time, but I have seen how AB has been a great help to those suffering.
I have had only petty questions and most have humored me.
No I would rather put my trust in a bunch or professionals and people I have actually met.
Good points well made, maybe I misunderstood the question.

No professional could have changed my situation.

Good luck with that one then Balders. Most 'professionals' that ive had dealings with have been anything but professional.
No.

I see AB much the same as Youtube: dip in now and again for some light entertainment (although much less now than in the past). Having said that, I'm thankful I found the site: met my OH through AB 9 years ago: living together for 7 of those with a four year old son.

Blimey, its a dating site as well, didn't know that....
Tills, theres hope for me and you yet!

Maybe that's reflected by the way you respond to them Nailit, but as I wasn't there, can't be sure.

No Baldric, you're right. You weren't there.
sometimes you need comfort and reassurance rather than professional help (which isn't always all that helpful anyway). Quite a lot of people here have been through hard times and are generally more empathetic than the well-off
Not often I agree with Baldric but I find that if I respect the professionals I meet with they respond in the same manner.
Please don't take that to mean you have not acted in such a manner Nailit
No only because I'm not the type to feel comfortable about telling all on here. I have seen how much support others have got although dare I say sometimes is it not the AB done thing to send out hugs and we're here for you comments even if you don't really care?
It has.... but also just the opposite too. You have to be very very careful who you talk to. I would also stick with professionals if possible. I disagree that any professional- particularly in mental health care- would treat you differently because of your responses. Their job isn't to judge, but assess.

I share a home with 2 NHS Professionals, one is my Wife of 30 yrs + who has just retired after a 50 year career with them, the other, our long term House Guest who is Front Line and has been for 20+yrs. Have met many more over the years both as Patient and Friend all have been very Professional.

i'm actually of the opinion that, for the best part, that humans are altruistic. Yes, I'm familiar with the works of Dawkins (The Selfish Gene etc) but I think that humans are, for the most part, inherently altruistic.
We might disagree, bicker etc on AB but when it comes down to it most of us want the best for each other.
No, when I was having a hard time I stopped posting.
When my mum was ill and dying I had some very sympathetic messages from ABers that helped me a great deal.
nailit .. 'altrustic' .. impressed with that, had to google it to find the meaning.
