I have an appointment at my local hospital for the above procedure and part of the instructions I have been given is to shave the groin area prior to attending. What exactly does this mean? Do I need to shave the entire pubic area?

You don't say for what reason you are having the procedure but yes, the whole of the pubic region should be shaved.
It will be to pass a small tube or catheter into your femoral artery and if there is any difficulty then with a completely shaved groin, the can cannulise the opposite side, although in 90% of cases one "go" is enough.
