The only problem is if the temperature in the garage is lower than the fridge set temperature. Most fridges are set to 4 or 5 deg C so if it is below that in the garage the fridge will not be able to cool the food down and can overheat.
Yes no problems providing it doesn't get below freezing but fridges generate heat so I don't see a problem
We had a fridge and a freezer on our old garage for years. Worked fine
Most fridges are built to operate in a heated home not an unheated garage,Eddie is spot on.
^ A fridge is a heat pump. It works by pumping heat from the inside to the outside and dispensing it via the coils at the back . So if the outside temperature is the same as or lower than the fridge set temperature it can not work.
I've had my fridge freezer in the garage for the last seven years and had no problems with it.
It also applies to freezers but as a freezer is set to - 20 or so it is rarely cold enough to be a problem. I have worked in restaurants where they have the freezers in the garage never a problem .
Hi, Bednobs.....I've had a fridge in the garage for the last twenty odd years with no problems at all....

This garage is attached to the house...the last was a large detached garage.....x
If you are buying a new one, Beko make both fridges and freezers for outhouses. If moving an old one out there, you have nothing to lose if it does not last long.
We took the chance with an old one and it is still working after 20 years.
Most garages are attached to the house and do not get down to near freezing point , so in a lot of cases using a fridge in a garage is not a problem. It needs to be taken into consideration if the weather is very cold though.

my garage is not attached, and it's made of wood
I admit the system would be unstable moving from 16'C to the garage but in the longish term - isnt the Fridge gonna take up the ambient temperature of the garage, and so .... if it is 3C the heat pump is never gonna get activated ?

just before anyone shouts insulation
if you switch off a deep freeze it defrosts in say 24h
so the insulation cant be that good

AND also getting bored as one does, I have fondled the coils out the back of my fridge and they are in fact quite warm so that a temp drop to 5'C is BETTER for cooling

which implies that it is more difficult for the poor little fridges in warm countries

I should have labelled this - - - a little engineer writes....
^ Then if the outside temperature gets down below 4 0r 5 deg you will have a problem, put the fridge somewhere else.
Dunno the science, but I've never had a problem. My freezer has been in one garage or a barn for 15 years!
// Then if the outside temperature gets down below 4 0r 5 deg //

you switch the fridge off and open the door
or just store the food on the garage floor ......

i need to make sure it's going to be ok - it's for storing medication not food
I wouldn't risk it if it's for medication, can't you jam it under the stairs (I'm presuming it's not a big fridge)?
^ Then I would not risk it, get a small table top fridge and keep it indoors.
