This site gives info on how the different types are done Henry - I'm sure you'll get through it fine.

If it's a transrectal biopsy, I have had one of those.

It's uncomfortable rather than painful. They insert a plug to open the rectum first, that's a little uncomfortable, but the key is to relax and keep breathing deeply.

The samples are taken with a device that makes a 'snapping' sound. You will feel it, but it doesn't hurt.

Good luck, and remember - relax and breathe gently in and out, deep breaths.
a-h: precisely my experience. But this procedure was a couple of years ago.

In the meantime, the NHS has introduced a CT method, thus reducing the hit-and-miss of a biopsy.
Interesting thread with interesting answers.
The OPer wants to know how a prostate biopsy works (what's it like) and AB provides 4 answers. Two with personal experience (which seems relevant) and two answered by cyber knowledge ( one of which was a woman).
All we need now is to give the Internet, the best answer and the whole point of Body and Soul becomes depersonalised.
I thought a link to a page that explained how it worked was pertinent, how wrong I was.

I do think the personal answers are the best for reassurance.

Apologies Henry, best wishes.
M. What are you apologizing for ?
Absolutely.....pertinent........
Sqad stop being such an old curmudgeon. 2 have answered from personal experience and 2 have provided informative links. This is one of the beauties of AB - people genuinely trying to help.

The OP asked "how it works". he didnt say "who has had one and what does it feel like".
Barmaid........quite.
Mamya - I don't think you were wrong at all.

This site has provided answers which mix links and personal experience, and both are valid in obtaining a wide series of viewpoints and information.

The gender of the poster should never be a barrier to providing information, or expressing an opinion.

I think Sqad's response is harsh and I hope it won't discourage you, or anyone else, from future posting.
LOL...
Sqad - it may amuse you, but putting people off from posting especially new joiners who don't know you like the regulars do, is not a good way to go.
I've come under heavy fire recently for answering medical questions - even with years of accumulated knowledge. Apparently medical knowledge counts for nothing if you've never received medical training.

You were questioned once, NoM, ONCE!
A-H.....yes it does amuse me.
Now, if you feel that my comments will put off users using websites, particularly certain users, then you must be naive.

Yes.....to me Medicine and Surgery are human studies and the majority of OPers in this section require a personal answer, not a cyber link, which on occasions may be useful.
Let's not derail Henry's thread. He'll be overwhelmed with answers and only 4 will be relevant. Particularly when he must be worried. I am sure we could air all our points in CB.
Just making a point, BM, that I have been criticised SEVERAL TIMES. Not one, but several times, so I am inclined to agree with your earlier post.
Sqad - // A-H.....yes it does amuse me.
Now, if you feel that my comments will put off users using websites, particularly certain users, then you must be naive. /

I know that introspection and an ability to look at the world from a view other than your own are not your strong points, so that response is to be expected.

If you wish not to consider that I may have a point, and then be rude to me to back up your sense of self-righteousness, then go ahead - as you know, it bothers me not at all.

I have made my point, I am not minded to de-rail the thread by getting into an argument with you, hopefully we can leave it there.
A-H....yes.....I would have thought that your post was apt and appropriate.
