Since his operation for lung cancer he has had a nasty taste in his mouth.
It is putting him off his food.
Any idea what could be causing it?

Thank you Chris, we will investigate that.
What medication is he taking?
Just to be clear Caran, are we dealing with a metallic taste OR a "nasty taste" as you implied?
well nasty taste in Greek is dysgeusia
just about the only thing I didnt have during my treatment tbh
and if you goggle "dygeusia in cancer patients"

you get: http://www.mascc.org/assets/ISOO/documents/10_sr_dysgeusia_cancer_therapies.pdf

which will kinda keep you off the streets for a few hours ....

"A wide range in dysgeusia was identified with the weighted prevalence from 56–76%, depending on the type of cancer treatment"

o common it is .....

ZnSO4 and amsfostine is used and doesnt seem to do much. Sorry

Question Author
It's mainly metallic and his teeth are on edge. He also has excessive wind from both ends!!
Sorry for the delay, only just got up!
Question Author
He isn't on any medication and did not need any treatment after the operation.
Caran...very helpful thank you.
I would doubt very much that it has anything to do with his cancer operation and may well be dental in origin.
I would suggest a visit to your dentist.
Sinus problems may well be investigated in your dental examination does not produce the goods.
Question Author
Thank you sqad, he has been to the dentist and had some root canal work, he asked at the time about the taste and dentist could not help him.
Aaaaah!. the amalgam in his root canal filling could well be the cause.
Difficult to treat, but if JPUR who is a dentist sees your post, he may well have some suggestions.
P.S....I bet you are going to say that the metallic taste predated his dental work..........;-)
Question Author
Correct Sqad, he complained about it not long after his op. He went to the dentist about a month ago.
is metallic taste not indicitive of blood ??
LOl...OK...next stop is to your GP who may well be persuaded to have some X-Rays of your OH's sinuses.
murray...it might be........there again it mostly isn't. ;-)
ok Dr Sqad..nursey Murraymints watching to mutch medical Dramas !!!lol xx

ps ho'ws yoo these days ?? no more wee scares I hope !!
much ^^
Naaah! fit as a fiddle......thanks.
good oh ! :-) x
Is he on chemo? My mum had a metallic taste in her mouth during chemo. The only way to get rid of it was the Oasis Summer Fruits drink!! Bizarre I know
