Do you need to fast and if so, for how long? My GP didn't say but a friend of mine says it's necessary.

If it is just thyroid tests.....no need to fast.
I had a fasting blood test which included thyroid function. I ate the night before about 9 pm, then just a drink of water in the morning. I hope you've got an early appointment.

Thank you, Sqad. It is just for thyroid function.

Alex, no appointment time. You just turn up and wait until your number is called.

My doctor said they don't do fasting blood tests any more - don't know if that's a local thing or done everywhere now.

I had a cholesterol test recently and that was a fasting one, hellywelly.
Good luck Tilly, usually not a long wait, get there early x
ive just had my yearly blood tests because of hypertension drugs i take.
cholesterol.sugar etc and my doc also said theres no need to fast anymore.
I think in general you don't need to fast for cholesterol test, but if you want the HDL and LDL and Triglyerides accurate you have to fast.

No fasting for thyroid test.
I've had plenty of thyroid bloods done, never been asked to fast.

Got a cholesterol one tomorrow and don't have to fast for that, nor have I for previous ones.

The only ones I can remember having to fast for are sugar levels.
