Are pub quizzes no longer fair? I hadn't been to one for ages, but went last night and was very disappointed, too many people using iphones under the tables, so what's the point of them now.

If thats whats happening then there isn't any point is there, pussnboots. I suppose the winners are the the fastest to Google.
Hi puss - we don't use phones in our pub quizzes, nor do any of the other teams. That's cheating!
Every quiz I go to they say anyone using a phone will be disqualified

It is cheating, I thought that the quiz master should announce that anyone using iphones to Google answers would be disqualified but he didn't.
I refuse to participate in such quizzes ever since I was told that the quizmaster's decision is final, even when he is patently wrong. These events are set by amateurs and run by amateurs.
That's why they are fun, jackdaw. If you want serious, you go for the pub league quizzes.

I won't be doing the quiz at this pub again, it's a fix, just heard from my neighbour on the phone 2 minutes ago that the quiz masters mother wins more than anyone else.
Perhaps she writes the questions, puss :-)

I just can't see the point of all the cheating it will end up with no one entering the quiz and surely the landlord has the reputation of his pub in mind.
The only time I've 'cheated' on a quiz is during the break and phoned my niece to ask a question about a Disney character but that was for the picture round and she got it wrong
I'm about to set another quiz for our U3A. This will be the fifth one I have done. We don't allow phones to be used either.
All mobiles etc. to be switched off at the pub quizzes I attend. Wouldn't want to win by cheating.
So far as I'm aware, there's no cheating goes on at our quiz. On occasion we've looked up the answers after handing our sheet in but before the answers are announced, but that's more to stop our stressing about answers we couldn't get, or checking if it's worth staying (final round before leaving is the jackpot round, need 5/5 to have a chance, so checking an answer is useful if you need to get away quickly).

Sorry, but best question I've ever heard read out was years ago by a landlady from up north...

"What is the name of the fish made famous by Steven Spielberg"
I expect people's jaws dropped when they heard that.

Believe it or not some people actually put Flipper as their answer
Lol methyl, I've had a few texts like that
A group of friends involved in a pub quiz does result in a general ambiance of amity, doesn't it?
