I've been getting shooting, electric shock-like pain in my back at waist level but only when I'm in bed or swimming on my back! No pain at all during the day apart from a few minutes when I first rise in the morning. It's almost as if it appears when my spine is stretched out by disappears when its compressed! Could this be a trapped nerve and if so why no pain when I'm upright ? ?
GP prescribed amytriptilyne so at least I'm getting a bit more sleep now but I still wake up every time i move.

You have been having back problems for almost a year now.

\\\Could this be a trapped nerve \\\

Yes it could, but as it does not travel down your leg (as it did a year ago) then it is likely to be a small nerve rather than a major one...e.g Sciatic Nerve.

Your GP seems to have everything under control.

Thanks sqad - was going to ask how long I can expect it to last but I'm sure you will only say ' how long is a piece of string!'
