So how did politicians as supposedly "bright" as a young HH and JD get themselves allied with PIE?

Really?

I thought this was done to death yesterday and Monday in Mikey's thread

They didn't.

PIE aligned to NCCL before Harry Harman joined them.

However, for some reason...this story isn't getting traction. And it's odd, because the Daily Mail has been running with it for a couple of weeks.

I don't know why this isn't this a much bigger story...
And how did Mr Dromey get elected to the seat at Birmingham Erdington when the list was supposed to be a woman only one - because he is Mr Harman - such labour party egalitarianism.

so HH joined after they were allied to PIE? doesn't really help her case sp!
Not sure why it 'falls to you' - I would be wary of trying to set yourself up as the Right Wing Arm of the AB - I think you;ll find that position is taken, and the incumbent is notoriously confrontational (LOL!)

I think it is perfectly possible to work with and for an organisation, and still not entirely embrace every single aspect of its work - after all, no politician would ever want to be seen blindly endorsing every aspect of their party's policies and ideologies.

The Mail has got a serious bee in its bonnet about this, but this story has still refused to create the outcry they are looking for - maybe they will let it go now.
To be fair she probably had no clue.

Her problem came in the appalling handing of the situation and attack on the Mail.

No traction SP, it's been reported on the news channels and is still being discussed. She could have killed it stone dead but her arrogance got the better of her.
I have no problem with her attacking the DM for what amounts to a smear campaign of guilt by association - And pointing out the faint whiff of hypocrisy, with the DM being so keen on publishing stories about underage girls in bikinis whenever they can.

That having been said, she should have made it clearer earlier that she and the others regretted the link between PIE and the NCCL. And we are owed an explanation as to why it took so long to eject PIE from the ranks of affiliated groups. But I do not think Harmon is the best person for that; Better would be to hear from Patricia Hewitt who was General Secretary. Despite claims of PIE being sidelined and their agenda marginalised through opposition within the NCCL led by Dromey, we are also owed some more detail on that.

But despite all this furore around PIE, it must also be remembered that successive Home Secretaries declined to outlaw them as a group until the early 1980s - throughout the 70's they were a legal group. And there were public protests back then about an advocacy group openly lobbying for changes to the law on paedophilia.

Oh, and the topic was posted the other day with 100 posts or more 3T.
PIE was not disbanded until 1984 i believe.

Harman worked for Brent Law Centre in London. Between 1978 and 1982, Harman was employed legal officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties.
if she is legal officer at the time, one assumes that she knew of PIE, that it was an affiliate to the NCCL, that whilst she may have had no knowledge of their behaviour, surely the PIE label rather gives them away.
it all smells a bit fishy to me, they were all trying to climb up the political ladder, these 3 have found that the nearer the top you get the more you need to have led a blameless public life.
and who can say that, eh?
