I Wish

I wish there were a person with a mobile freezer to come and defrost my freezer. Never seem to get it right!

I've spent the morning cleaning my cooker. I really, really hate that job :o(

for many years, i have used a very light hammer (tack hammer) to defrost my freezer. You "bounce" it in the sheets of ice and they fall off in great slabs which is most satisfying. If you pack the frozen stuff in black sacks it will stay solid for the 30 ish minutes it takes to knock the ice off and seep it out with a dustpan and brush.

That's quite a clever little idea DaisyNonna. You could use a chillbox for the time to clear the freezer though?

you should just do what i did last week - accidentally not close the door properly, Then your freezer just defrosts itself with no input needed from you, except to clear up a massive pool of water, and chuck loads of food out :(

I hate defrosting the freezer but I've got it down to a fine art.
Wait until there's not a lot in it and almost nothing in the fridge. Remove drawers and most of the shelves from fridge & pack all the freezer food in there...keep the door closed and it stays frozen for ages. That said I still hate doing it and it's in desperate need.

I'd be happy if someone else just popped in and made me a cuppa sometimes :)

Well little Queenie likes cleaning the oven, and I have a Polti steam cleaner which I use (with the help of best beloved) to defrost the freezer. Takes hardly any time to do at all. I've had the Polti for years and years and I wouldn't be without it. The only other thing I would wish for is a pressure cooker

Keep putting pans full of boiling water on the empty shelves when defrosting, that soon melts all the ice that then drips to the drain thing at the bottom, doesn't take long that way.

Buy a frost free freezer...they work....I wish titchmarsh would surprise me with his gardening team !

I too have a frost free fridge freezer. I wouldn't be without it. Bought it when I cut my hand quite badly trying to quicken up defrosting the old one.

Nungate, you can have my pressure cooker.

I defrost mine with a hairdryer. Takes about 15 minutes.
