I am 28 yrs old and stopped taking my contraceptive pill over a year ago. My problem is that my periods are very irregular which is a pain as Mr Lilyfrog and I are trying to get pregnant, so not only does it mean it is hard to plan my ovulation days, but also means every two months or so I get my hopes up as my period appears to be two weeks late.

Some months it can be 28 days some months it can be 40+

I dont want to have to go to the doctor straight away as I am sure it is not Polysistic ovaries as I have always been irregular and very light. Does anyone know of any ways to regulate my period and to encourage the baby lilyfrogs along?? I have already started a healthy eating plan.

I can't help you with the getting pregnant part - as I wouldn't know where to start. But irregular, light periods are a symptom of polycystic ovaries (as I have this condition) but not wanting to panic you there are other signs and symptoms. Have you noticed anything different about yourself ?

I have noticed anything different about my self, what sort of symptoms should I be looking for??

My periods have always been very irregular and light from when I was young, I also have been pregnant in the past and had it terminated aged 20

Would this make a difference?

hhmm this is difficult cos a lot of women think they have PCOS once symptoms are thought about. So I don't want you to think you have if I just rattle them off - tell you what, I'll ask you a few criptic questions!

Have you noticed any change in your weight? if so what

How about your hair?

Any abdominal pain? if so where and what like?

Question Author
No change in weight or hair, both relativley healthy. I have not noticed any abdominal pain, although this month I have had a dull ache like mild period pains for about a week, I keep thinking I will come on but nothing as yet.

Do you think it is worth visiting the doctor? I have always had a "hate to waste their time attitude" especially as not easy to get an appointment in east london

Ah well, good news for you, it's not PCOS! You would have terrible stomach pains if you had. And there would be noticable weight and hair issues (which I won't go into) if you had this condition. A lot of women have used this as an excuse just because they can't become pregnant.

Perhaps give it a little longer before you go to the doctors as I believe it can just take time to become pregnant (but Im not experienced in this at all) and if you go too soon I think thats all the doctor will say 'relax, and give it time'.

Hope Ive helped, if only a little. And good luck Im sure they'll be little 'lilytadpoles' some time soon.
