What do girls usually do with their engagement ring when they are given the wedding ring? Is it supposed to be kept on the finger? My boyfriend says we should sell it after we're married...

Everyone that I know (female) have kept their engagement ring after they were married and continued to wear it alongside their wedding ring. Don't know of anyone who has sold their engagement ring after getting married!!

The engagement ring is worn under the wedding ring. on the wedding finger.

It's traditional to keep it, although I know some women don't wear it because they don't like wearing two rings on one finger.

If you are going to wear both on one finger then make sure they are both made of the same metal or they'll rub together and wear away the softer metal.

Your bf is trying to take you for a ride Laura. You carry on wearing your engagement ring after you get married. I would kill mine if he suggested selling mine - but then after all he did design it!!

Just to add a little - tradition suggests that once the engagement ring is put on the finger it should never be taken off.  Therefore the wedding band/ring is worn over the top, as loosehead said.  Finally, you may add an eternity ring over the top of that.

Don't start married life on a row, but I, like libertie, have never heard even the suggestion of selling something that should mean so much to the woman/girl/lady in question.

ditto - i've never even heard of someone suggesting to sell an engagement ring!! I always thought that the engagement ring is put on the right hand during the ceremony and then transfered back once the wedding ring is on, meaning the wedding ring is closest to your heart.  I've just done a quick search on this and there doesn't seem to be a right answer - but don't sell it!!
keep it!!! i cant believe your oh suggested selling it!
Are you sure you want to marry this guy? I mean sounds a bit of a tight wad to me! Do you think you'll get the eternity ring down the line??

Maybe the marriage is for the love and not the money!  I hope so!

I guess some people do sell their engagement rings - YEARS after their married if they fall into such bad debt that it's either the house or the car or the ring.  But planning to!?!  I'd have a word with your fiance my girl!!!

I brought a wedding ring that would compliment my engagement so I have the option of wearing it both or just the wedding ring. It is traditional to keep it, whether to pass it onto your kids or not, that is your choice. But seriously, never heard of anyone selling it after they get married.

I always thought it was kept and worn with the wedding ring. Don't sell a beautiful memory.
I always thought it was kept and worn with the wedding ring! this is what I'd do with mine. Please don't sell a beautiful memory. And don't let your fiancee' force you to sell it.

You can get wedding rings that fit to the shape of you engagement ring so that they are comfortable to wear together.

Oh my God! He sounds terrible dosen't he! I'm definetly going to show him this. I appreciate all the answers girls!
err and Boys!
Dont sell it.   I have redsigned and updated mine severl times.   Wedding ring on first then engagement ring then eternity.    Alot of omen dont take off their wedding ring so engagement goes on second.   Hopefully it ha some huoooge diamond in it and these cn get aught on things and collect dirt so i take mine off when cooking cleaning and at night but it goes back on in the morning.

You could always use the engagement ring to make aup a lovely special wedding ring if you dont want to wear two rings.

I wear my engagement ring alongside my wedding ring and always will. I'd never dream of giving up my engagement ring. It means so much to me. What's your other half want the money for anyway? Cheeky sod - needs a slap!
