/// Many parents complain it amounts to form of ‘discrimination against dads’ that would cause an outcry if women were treated the same way. ///

No I don't think so. Dads are more often perceived as the 'joker' of the family, the prankster etc., So when I see Daddy Pig being fat and lazy or Peter Griffin causing mayhem through sheer stupidity I laugh along with my family.

And then I remember, its just TV. It's not real.
........worse than that, Octavius, many of the programmes named are animated cartoons, too!

The shock! The horror!
Must be those nasty knuckle-dragging neandertals again ! ! ! ! !
Lol Jack...I was about to point that out.
I got as far as Netmums.

Usual suspects out on parade again I see.
Homer Simpson is hardly feckless. He works in an enviroment that could well take years of his life, has a nice home, and a seemingly well-adjusted family. He's something of a role model, I'd say.
TV shows are always angled towards it target audience. Having to endure the Disney Channel I notice alot of the shows aimed at girls depict boys and parents as clueless idiots.

This attempt at swaying and audience is no more prevalent than in advertising. Adverts aimed at men use female over sexuality to reel men in. Adverts aimed at women often cast men as being, well, clueless idiots.
TBH only the feeble minded buy into it all.
'female overt sexuality'. Doh! as Homer would say
"Many parents complain" ? Well, that's overwhelming evidence that it's right, isn't it !

Oh, dear. And what of the others who see nothing wrong and don't bother to complain? It's a particularly harsh criticism of poor Homer Simpson (sometimes voted Britain's favourite American). He works in a nuclear energy plant, supports his family, is a devoted husband and father, but is not as worldly- wise as his wife
would be interesting to know who makes the shows, because that might have a bearing on showing men in a bad light perhaps. However doesn't Matt Groening write the Simpsons, not sure who the author of Shameless is, but that has been running for 10 years...
sandy is right, didn't that arch baboon George W criticise the show, yet Homer is a loving dad, works for a living, and doesn't cheat on his missus, which i suspect is something George might have done.
I don't complain. I can identify with Peter Griffin and Quagmire.

Giggety giggety goo.
